    Hi folks,

My elderly dad is having endless problems with his oil fired heating system. A friend plumber had been looking after it for years but it has never really worked right any period. He will come, it will work for a few weeks and then fail again. Great job security I suppose.

Last year they put in a new firebird enviromax system, with predictable results. It start belching smoke after a few weeks and is now choked with soot. I had a look, cleaned the light sensor and reset it, but it failed after an hour. The air intake is into a metal shed, I suspect limited airflow is the cause, however I wouldn't be 100%

It is beyond my limited powers. I need a safe pair of hands looking at it.

    Recommendation is most welcome.

    Ray K

Was your new boiler commissioned? (did the installer/commissioner fill out your boiler passport book for warranty??)
Sounds to me like a poor install has caused this, and you should be getting your installer back to sort out.

Is it Ashbourne or Drogheda your looking for someone? (can PM you someone maybe)

If the boiler is choked with soot, it will need a serious cleanup, and needs to be properly calibrated before being put back into use (not just wiping a PE cell) as anything else is just ignoring the underlaying problem.

    all tony dgobs says above

also cleaning the photocell allows the boiler to run just making the sooting issue worse
