    Hi
My neighbours are doing some extensive building. Can anyone tell me where I can get the plans? Are they free? They've told us nothing of what they are doing. Just stuck a sheet of paper on their gate that can't be read. Also if I want to put in an objection(s) how do I go about this? Also I believe this building will be going on for 6 months! I don't want to listen to this for 6 months can I object to that?
    Cheers for any advice
    Slick.

What council area are you in? If they have made a planning application you can get them on line. If the planning notice on their gate cannot be read then their application will not be allowed.

If the notice they put up can't be read then they can be refused PP. If you ask them they will most likely show you the plans. Planning applications in Dublin can be viewed in the DCC offices in Wood Quay

Look up the website of your local authority.
Go to planning section search the address and it will come up with a ref. no.
If the notice only went up today it might be a week or ten days before the application is lodged.
Best to go in to the planning department public office and ask to view the file.

You can just draw up an objection yourself or pay a consultant.
You can look for mitigation measures to reduce construction nuisance.

They've told us nothing!! However I've heard they're planning an extension to the front and back and extensive remodelling inside from what I've been told. the sign on the gate is on an A4 sheet of paper with about sign 10 font. I can't read it.

So the notice is not illegible, it is an issue with your eyesight that can't read it.

Also, why would they ask your permission?

I'll guess that relationship with the neighbour is not the best. (comes across like that in your posts)

As others have said, the file will be online and available at the Planning desk in the local council office.

You can make an objection, but you would need to show valid reasons - not liking them or that they did not ask you first is not a valid reason

They don't have to consult you directly.
Just keep an eye on the LA website or you could ask for details from the neighbours themselves.

Will you ever need to do some building or renovating yourself you might be opening a can of worms for yourself that you'll never close

Doesn’t know what they are objecting to, but they are objecting?

Its none of your business what they do, they don't have to consult you, you can object and if your objection is valid it will be considered

If theyve anyway started, and your only noticing the sign now... It's more than likely WAY too late to have any influence.

The only way of checking now is to go the councils website and see if the application is passed the five weeks for submission.

    Sounds like it probably has.

Most likely the extension to the back & the remodeling inside will be exempt from needing PP unless its a massive extension. Most likely the only part requiring PP is the extension to the front.

I've seen a lot of people object to PP with no genuine grounds for objecting. The PP is granted & relations with the neighbours sour forever.

Look the plans over & think long and hard before you object is my advice.

LOL some anger people on here. That's exactly it I don't know for sure how high or far out they are going. That's the problem if you don't object then you have to live with it. Anyways leave it that Happy Christmas.

Had to do similar digging for a my brother a while back who wrongly feared the worst. The local authority let him see the plans that were submitted with the application and it put his mind at rest. The build is almost finished and caused him no hassle.

I've gone to the council website but there's no plans there. Do I need to pay to get the plans. Not bothered about the neighbours - just don't want light blocked from my gardens. Thanks for your help.

That's not a valid objection, you have no right to light iirc

You have no right to light, sunlight or view in your garden. This would be a complete waste of money objecting on something like this. As I say think long & hard before objecting. Get advice from someone with more knowledge before objecting.

Don't waste time waiting for it to come up on the website.
Go to the Planning Office as soon as they open after the holidays and enquire.

Here you will find a list of planning consultants who will advise you for a fee.

They don’t need to tell you anything.
That’s the point of the newspaper notice and site notice.

If the site notice cannot be read from the public path then the application will be declared invalid once the planner makes their site visit towards the end of the 5 week public notice period.

    The A4 is standard.
You can view the plans online if you don’t want to go into the council offices.
With regards to an observation, you need to base this on valid planning grounds using the development plan for your county to aid you.

Have they started building works yet or is it just the sign in the garden for now?
