am i the only Irish person who is growing tired of the annual adulation of Shane Magowan and his Christmas Hit?

Ok i accept it's a very good song, and that it's obviously very apt at this time of year, but bloody hell, do we have to listen to/watch it it 24/7?

Nope disagree. I don't think i've heard it more than any other christmas. Maybe even less. And I like it. Just switch to another station if it bothers you. All sorted!

The Mariah Carey one and the Slade one were played more this year, I thought, or maybe just at the times I was listening.

To be honest, I haven't actually heard much of it recently. Only seen articles of people talking about the language within it. Which seems to be more the thing over the last few years. Theres more attention brought to it when people complain of it.

I think if there were better Christmas songs since, then it would be more diluted. I’ve heard a lot worse, played a lot more all year round. With X factor on the way out, maybe Christmas number one will become a thing again

I heard one of them bastard solo singers with guitars murder it in BurgerKing's radio t'other day. Shocking stuff, put me off even the normal version.

I haven't heard it once this year, but's that's prolly because I don't listen to shyte music radio stations or watch RTE.

edit: I didn't mean that the way it sounded lol

And Luke Kelly dirty old town for irish stuff.

Dirty old town isn't Irish, it was written about Salford.

Fairytale is way overplayed, it's like media, man with guitar buskers, shops and pub playlists have decided what are suitable Xmas songs and all are played to death.

There's hundreds of other older and newer songs that seldom get an airing. If I hear Mariah fcuking Carey with her witless warbling again I'm going to punch whoever is responsible in the face.

I love it. So much better than a lot of the ****e played.

You’re not. It’s cool to hate it now.

Best Christmas song, also never got to number 1

But we have had some great Christmas song over the years like the Spice girls singing about putting on a condom, such a lovely Christmas song

Its overplayed to death of course every christmas. But its a great song lyrically and musically and most importantly for a song its emotive.

Have to agree with this. Makes noddy and the lads sound like a breath of fresh air sh!t I’d even take Wizard.

There are a few Christmas songs which are hardly played so sound fresh when you hear them.

You don't have to be Irish to be sick of it I'd say. It's only of interest now for the "hate lyric" use of Fagg0t* :D

"Hate lyric", really? Do people actually use that term for this song?

That guitar should have been smashed over his head for the way he butchered the song.

    "cheap homosexual"

I know fairytale has been criticized for its bigoted lyrics with some stations refusing to play it.

However Dreaming of a White Christmas is the most overtly racist song imaginable and comes in for little criticism. It should be changed to “I’m Dreaming if a multicultural celebration” or something along those lines. Total dog whistle lyrics.

You only have to listen to it once a year compared to the modern whiny over played songs during the year.
