Satellite issue

    Hi guys,

First time posting on this forum (Please go gentle!). I have a problem with my Satellite signal that I hope someone out there can help me with.
I got Freesat installed about 8 months ago and until last week all was well but then the signal went on the tv in one room. There does not seem to be an issue on the tv in the second room. We got the guy who installed the system to come out and look at the problem and all seemed well when he left but I noticed that he left the set top box on in the second room (the tv in the first room has no set top box attached to it - the coaxial cables come out from the wall and straight into the tv). If I switch off the set top box in room 1 I lose the satellite signal in room 2.
Does this mean there is an issue with the LNB or is there something else amiss?
I realize that this is Christmas Eve and I don’t expect anyone to read this tonight but any advice would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks and Merry Christmas!

Unless your tv has a satellite tuner then it will need the STB to decode the signals
If it does have a tuner then the cable may not be looped to pass to the tv when the STB is turned off.

Did he do anything to the dish or was he only at the two TVs?

    Hi,
You guys are brilliant ( I genuinely did not expect any replies so swiftly).
Yes, the tv in room 1 has a tuner built in but until the other day the set top box in room 2 did not need to be powered on for a signal to be received in room 1.

Unfortunately, I was at work when he arrived so I don’t know for certain. My wife said he went up the ladder to look at the dish.

I assume you have the cable coming out in the room with the STB and there is another cable going from the STB to another socket in the wall to pass to the TV? Can you you just try connecting the satellite cable directly in the socket feeding the tv?

There seems to be two cables coming directly from the lnb (one to each room). One goes into the tv in room 1 and one goes into the STB in room 2 which then feeds the tv in that room.

That doesn't make sense - why is there a feed from the STB to the tv as well

    Misread that

Sounds like it could be a power issue on the LNB from the TV with the inbuilt tuner and it needs the STB on to power it.

Check your settings on the TV for the Satellite, there should be an option for LNB Power ON/OFF. Make sure its on.

The Tv is a (relatively new) LG TV and I don’t seem to be able to find an option for LNB Power ON/OFF on the TV settings. I’ll get the model number and post it if that is any use. I appreciate all of your help so far guys.

The Coax goes into LNB IN on the STB (HUMAX) in room 2 and then there is a connection from the box to the TV (in room 2). In room 1 there is a coax cable from the satellite via the wall that seems to go into the tv via a splitter into the tv in room 1 (inputs into tv in room 2 say satellite IN and cable IN) the TV in room 1 doesn’t have any option for a coaxial cable to go directly into it.
