So, top prizes in Scratchcards being left out of releases to the public and issues with Lotto draws.

Y0ou'd wonder if this is a tip of a particularly grimy iceberg.

It all started going downhill when they sold it to a private company. Still play it though. That few euro is worth it for a chance to never have to work again.

Aren't they increasing the prizes on some of the games over Christmas to 'distribute' some of the money that should have already been won? A loads of extra €1000 prizes? Obviously that doesn't excuse them from not delivering what they were previously supposed to have handed out.

Stopped playing lotto about a month after camelot or whatever they are called took over - the euro millions is a much better bet if you ask me. Something not right at all with the Irish lotto at present

If only we had a lotteries regulator, if only.

Haven't seen this upcoming XMAS/EOY draw advertised as much compared to last year. Maybe it's all POS (reatail impulse) sales they're aiming for.

Only approx 37% of the total ticket sales revenue is being made available as prizes,
can't see them selling all the raffle tickets, esp at €25 a pop.

For fans of stats it's a 1:83 ratio, or 1.2% chance of winning anything (not great).

If the lotto sells all of those tickets they get a €7.8 million profit - just for selling raffle tickets.

Ehm, what you seemingly don't get is that the same company has the franchise. It's not as though EuroMillions is a separate lottery, it is a joint venture between various European lotteries, one of them being PLI, formerly An Post National Lottery.

This sounds a very low prize %. Do you have the prize structure? Lotto is 52%, EuroMillions 50%. Lotto 54321 offers the best % prize payback IIRC. Scratchcards can be quite good also.

Freedom of information request few years back revealed you have more chance of winning the lottery than anything substantial on scratch cards.

Yes but I presume they cant fiddle the euromillions as much as I believe they do with the Irish lotto.

You don't need to lodge an FOI for this, it's on the website if you know where to look. The prize % is 65% (approx) on Scratchards, 50% (approx) on the Lotto. I used to work there. I'd like to see this FOI, do you have a link?

The issue would be that the very vast majority of scratchies are extremely low-end prizes, and in light of recent 'errors' (missing upper prizes), you may consider them less 'real world' than a televised/supervised live type of national lotto draw events. There may also be other variant scenarios with scratching.

For Ire lotto overall odds of winning a prize are '1 in 29'.

    Match 6 @10,737,573 (minimum of €2m)
    Match 5B @1,789,596 (Estimated €100,000)
    Match 5 @44,740 (varies)
    Match 4B @17,896
    Match 4@ 918
    Match 3B @688
    Match 3 @54
    Match 2B @72

    For the €25 EOY/XM Raffle it's '1 in 83'

Yep, 37% going to the consumer is way low. (prize fund from total sale revenue) Full sales 500k tickets equates to a nice churn of 12.5mill

Wouldn't scratch a cat with a scratchcard, for a variety of reasons.

Only ever do the hotpick version of euromills' for upto 88% viability including a very small P+ via LOLNs etc.

A few years ago every sports club and local charity seemed to get lottery funding for something. Now nothing. Haven't heard of anyone local getting lottery funding for years. Even the lottery themselves don't seem to advertise the "good causes" they support.

The National lottery is now just a betting scam. It was always a tax on individual stupidity. Not it's a tax on social stupidity.

So the 1 in 29 is the odds of winning any prize for Lotto. Odds of winning are the jackpot are 1 in 10,737,573. Before they changed the matrix from 6/45 to 6/47 it was 1 in 8 million odds of winning jackpot.

    https://www.thejournal.ie/lotto-ireland-unclaimed-prizes-2019-5119648-Jun2020/

Operating profit reported for 2019 by canadian pension fund (who operate national lottery) of 8.9 million euro.
Is it just me or is that bad for them? They paid €405 million for the 20 year licence.
€8.9 million * 20 years = 178 million (Obviously the operating profit could increase over the remaining years but not that much)

Doesn't add up. What am I missing here?
