    Hi ,

    Currently driving a 2012 1.33 petrol Auris
Used it to go back and forth to work .
Average about 6,500km a year in it.

Looking to upgrade to something a bit more modern , have a mazda 6 as main car and miss the touches such as the Led lights, parking sensors, auto wipers and info system of the Mazda when I use the Auris.

    Budget is approx 15-17k.
    Any recommendations?

If you want to stick with Toyota, then a hybrid Auris would be a good buy, especially with your low mileage. Otherwise you can pick up grand petrol hatchbacks with a good spec for that price, like a Golf, Focus, i30 etc.

    Whats the distance to work?

With your budget you could pick up a first generation eGolf which will do circa 120km. It should have all the toys you mention. I had one and huge spec compared to other cars of similar age.

You will have other electric cars of course like Leaf etc.

You will need a driveway so you can charge.

    40km return trip to work.

    Thanks

    Get an eGolf :D

They are lovely to drive, cheap tax and service cost. Insurance "should" drop but you will increase the value of car so might not.

If you do have tolls you get reduced etc. A home charger will cost circa 1k and you get a 600 euro grant. So 400 quid.

The eGolf is lovely to drive as well....I bought mine and we ended up driving it everywhere.....loved it so much I bought a 192 one. We have a second car which we use when we go outside the range so I never used the public charging. Maybe 3 times in 4 years on both cars. But now with Ionity been built around Ireland travelling longer distance is easier in these cars

My 151 spec had: bluetooth, cruise control, self parking, heat seats, pre heat/cool(all electrics have this), reverse sensors, Led lights(really nice lights as well), infotainment but not apple carplay, auto wipers, auto lights.....

They hold value, I stuck 60k km's or something like that on it, had it 3 years and only lost 4 k on it when I sold it

They are rare. I got mine from the UK. Until last year only 2 dealers in Ireland even serviced them, now they all sell and service them.

You best bet is to import from the UK. Go to a specialist company to import. I use Electric autos(https://www.electricautos.ie/). Phil is a gent and I bought 2 cars off him. You can check for feedback on him in electric car forum. Depending on your location another couple of dealers have popped up

So you have the first eGolf which was a 26kWh battery. This sold 2015 - 2017 in UK. They swapped to a 35kWh battery version at the end of 2017. You need to be careful as the Irish version only came in 2018. If the car has apple carplay then it is newer battery.

The 26kWh will do 100-120km with a heavy foot like mine. The 35kWh will do 200-220km again with my heavy foot. A guy in Limerick has the 26kWh version and does 170km in it but I have no idea how he drives it to get that range.

    Something like this: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201909092034285?radius=1500&model=GOLF&sort=price-asc&make=VOLKSWAGEN&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&advertising-location=at_cars&postcode=se19pz&fuel-type=Electric&page=1

0% VRT because it is electric. But ring electric autos, give him what you are looking for and he sources them direct from the trade so you will get cheaper. I cant remember the name of other dealers but they would do the same

The one on carzone is not an eGolf. It is a Golf GTE which is a PHEV. So has a 1.4petrol engine and then a small battery, probably circa 10kWh but I don't know. It willdo circa 30-50km on battery and then kick in the petrol engine. Good if you want to travel short distance monday to friday and then long distance at weekend.

We have an eGolf which does all our driving, then an Outlander PHEV which is 90% on battery. Then if we need a long trip we just jump in Outlander and use the petrol engine. As you have a second car already with combustion engine no need to have a PHEV>

Thanks ,I did consider a Prius PHEV at start , mainly as we do get some power cuts here and was questioning whether jumping completely to electric. Lack of availability of them and steep price but me off. Looks like would have to import from Japan to get something of good value.
