Is there a stigma against gender-bending in men?

moreso than in women? It seems to me that it's fairly obvious that feminine men face far more condemnation than masculine women. The earliest I learned this was in school observing others and myself. Guys were called gay for how they acted by other boys (effeminately). I don't think I ever heard the girls who were "butch" criticised for that.

And even outside that, I know my family from Africa where gender norms are much stronger than here condemn gay men more than lesbians.
