It's quite surprising having watch'ed the evolution of the housing crisis from as far back as 2013. Fine Gael really really fell short of being up to the task of forecasting and analysing the length of time and stain this crisis would leave on their government and the country.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and its very unfortunate that lack of analysis by finegael on how dependent the private rental market was to housing supply while their broke ground, threw millions at authority's to the line the pockets of dodgy housing associations on new builds.

Many factors should of been considered to protect private landlords to keep them in the market for a period, either tell the Revenue to ease off or cap rents but give some form of tax break.

We are looking at a decade long crisis and it's getting ugly as civil unrest simply cant believe what's being seen on the streets of citys across the country.

As we speak housing associations are probably drawing down mortgages 100k over market value to keep their yearly budgets, housing lists are being modified because of right wing loons burning down B&B's, construction firm directors buying ownership of housing in their own sites as they are getting millions in over payments for over valued council property.

Lack of experience , lack of nurturing the importance of private investors renting out their homes on celtic tiger mortgages they could'nt afford. even only keeping them happy for 5 years, could of curtailed so much of the embarrassment our country is now seeing.

A mother on the social welfare can now get 1900 emergency HAP, 1000 in dole payments, and 300 in child allowance, yet they can't get a home.

The country own's the banks, and a portfolio of property in Nama, yet cant get a entry level 3 bedroom house on a mortgage to anyone on less than 80k a year, with 32,000 including stamp duty if the house is 260k...

My world what idiots. The less you know about how the world works the better off you are.

I recently looked up the share holding of a company which took over so many mortgages here in Ireland, 80+% of the share holding is to shell company's in Bermuda.

NAMA is set up to get the most out of the properties that it was given, not to give the houses cheaply to the local councils to house the homeless.

No. You can find the price it was sold at, but I don't see a reason why you should know who has the money to buy the properties.

The state does not own the banks. Not anymore.

When the cheap money runs out...it will get ugly. And FG will be blamed.
