I'm currently driving a 20th diesel car and they inevitable is getting closer - either due to unfeasible mechanical issues or government meddling.

So, in currently looking to see what options are out there for me when the time comes.

I'm looking for something that is quiet, good mpg, and with a bit of comfort. I'm not really looking for Audi, BMW or Mercedes so was looking at Jaguar and Lexus.

What are the XE and IS cars like? My preference is for a smallish saloon although I would not hesitate for something a bit more sporty - although running costs and a harsh ride are offputting.

Looking forward for some curve balls as well. This is only tyre kicking at this stage - I'm going to drive my current car into the ground.

    Thanks.

Xe was poor inside and bland outside tbh. IS is pushing on in years now.

Do you want a left field saloon?

Alfa Guila is a choice, not sure how wise a choice. You also have the Pug 508 and the Toyota Camry.

Other than that it's just premium German choices.

    Infiniti or Volvo 90?

The IS is a comfortable place to be have it few months now and it's a nice motor. Its not really for those who have a hard acceleration foot, more of a well refined auto drive.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the xsara might be a better car than some modern options!

Might have to bring some sporty hatchbacks into the mix - comfort permitting.

    Still in a Xsara??

Why not go for a Citroen DS5?
    They're lovely.
