New job offer

I got a job offer which I accepted. I still haven't signed anything and still haven't received a start date. I was told January. However, I gave my notice to my current employer. Which is dumb of me to do before hearing back about a start date but there was so much **** and I just had enough. I'll be glad for a few weeks off though.

With the way how things are, I probably won't hear anything back until early January and then start my new job at the end of January.

I realize that there's a 9 week wait to claim the dole if you leave work. But my employer did push me for a final date so I'm not sure if that will help me.

I have sent an email to ask if there was an update on a starting date but haven't heard anything back and I'm getting paranoid now. Though I know it's Christmas time and they're probably busy with things.

Even though there's a 9 week wait, is it worth going into the social welfare when I finish up work?

You need to go in as soon as you finish your current job. It is for them to decide how long you will wait if any time at all. The disqualification period starts from when you apply as far as I know, not when you finish work.
