Politicians interfering with the running of RTE

    I think that it's extremely disturbing that anytime rte announce any kind of cutback, politicians make noise and rte back down. This has happened now with longwave and with lyric FM's Limerick base. What is the point of RTE having an independent board if everything they do can be overruled by parish pump TDs ?????

    Well when they go looking for handouts to pay their overpaid staff salaries you can hardly blame them. T&C apply ya know

    Job cuts and such moves will create a backlash. The unions & politicians should try to prevent such cuts. As should RTÉ.

    RTÉs plan was poor on actually costing. I don’t think it even mentions that they had planned at least 20m in cuts every year for the next 3, none of the cuts gave an estimate of actual savings.

    Excluding the move of the NSO to the NCH, a decision by government, I could only see 7m in cuts, they are miss 4m in cuts!
