Cork or Limerick - better for nightlife?

Passed through both on occasion, but no real experience with either.

    Nightlife wise, similar?

Any city rank ahead of the other?

Dublin is better than both but, alas - not always accessible.

Plus it's basically a 2.5 hour ride on the train from each TO Dublin so, there's always there.

Basically I'm moving to one of these cities in the near future, and I'm weighing the pros and cons of each.

Nightlife is important for me - mostly dance clubs (yeah yeah, I'm an 80's motherf%%ker - I have diamond studs in my earlobes - no h0m0).

Accessibility, transport, getting about, general quality of life in each?

I also like to hit the weight room and occasionally throw some hands in a boxing gym but, I'm sure both cities can cater equally well in this respect (though Cork inhabitants are never done telling the rest of Ireland what great sports people they produce so....?)

    But yeah - nightclubs, dancing, electronic music and most importantly, dumb college girls making a series of poor life decisions;

Cork or Limerick - what it is?

Edit: I should include - is there one or the other that would be considered more expensive to stay in?

I live in Limerick and can confirm Cork has a far better nightlife, restaurant and club scene ;)

If I were to put absolute faith in that opinion - what would I be basing that faith on?

More clubs, more people, hotter girls - easier to get home after?

What's Limerick nightlife scene like in general?

It has a big university and, you know college students - they're getting their rocks off somehow.

I'm sure there's some nightlife scene that caters to them?

Cork is the only place outside of Dublin that actually has a city feel.
It’s a lot bigger than limerick.
I’m not from cork by the way.
    Live outside limerick city.
I never thought much of cork but spent a few months going down there on the weekends and it’s great spot to go out.
    Everything is catered for there.

    Limerick. Definitely Limerick.

Does everything still close early in Cork? Not many good pubs in the city to be honest. And then you have loads of drunk shams all arriving on to the street at the same time looking for that Hillbillies place.

The college nightlife scene is brilliant. Probably the countries best outside of Galway. All the university students live on top of each other around the campus, leading to any amount of house parties etc, with decent nightclubs thereafter. It lets itself down slightly at weekends though, different crowd, not as hectic while still having a few decent bars.

Corks a good bit bigger with much more of an after work crew and a decent restaurant scene.

So if you go to UL it's great craic, otherwise the rest of the time it's ****e?

Cork, overall is a much more vibrant city I would say. Also twice or three times as big , and even proportionally I'd say Corks city centre area is larger

Which is easier to get about?

Scoping them on google maps, the University in Cork seems central (assuming I'm gonna be living on a peripheral estate), and the University in Limerick is about 2 k outside the center - so it seems either way I'm gonna be having a hike to class in the morning of a couple k.

I have no idea the living situations in either but, on daft.ie the lowest seem to be coming in at about 500 per for both.

Weather wise - Cork is slightly warmer and gets slightly more sunlight hours, but also a fair amount more rain than Limerick.

Like Cork better myself but Limerick gets an unfair press. Not the nicest looking city but always had good nights there.

Student nights specifically - Cork Vs Limerick?

    Same?

Could you not get a bike? Weather wise I'd imagine the difference is so minute that you shouldnt even take it into account as a deciding factor

Of course I could get a bike.

    Everyone could get a bike.

Even Leo Varadkar could get a..... huge f**king bike.

Point is, not to have to use it to much.

I'm basically trying to suss which of Limerick or Cork would offer an easier, less hassle life style, easiest to get around, with the best social life and access to facilities like wrestling/mma/boxing/gymnastics - and would be cheaper.

So you're considering moving to either Limerick or Cork?
Both are nice places although I prefer Cork.

You'll definitely get the ride in Cork.
Cork feens do be mad for the foreign flesh.

Can you comment on ease of transport in each?

I'll be using a bike either way but, general ease of access, getting about etc?

As in - Dublin is a damn nightmare to negotiate.

Galway is a a cake walk.

Some mincey town like Longford is just perfect.

Cork vs Limerick in that capacity?

As best I can tell, I'll be going from UCC area, back and forth to an area called "Douglas", if it ends up being Cork.

If Limerick, I'll be going back and forth between UL and the city center.

Google maps says they're both about 2 km each way.

    So, same same?

    Or what?

UL to City centre is just over 5k, its based in a big suburb so theres good bus routes to town. Theres a bike scheme in the city too (like Dublin bikes), not sure if they go all the way out to the university but i may be wrong. There is also a canal that you can walk that links town with the university which is nice

Limerick is a lovely city, my favorite tbh.. Least fav would be Cork and Galway, I've rarely met a man from Cork or Galway who wasn't a complete tosser (but their ladies rock).

As far as night life, Cork.

    Friendliest people, Limerick.

If I was to move out of Dublin it would have to be to Limerick.

Being the old fart that I am, my fav pub is Limerick is Charlie Malones on Wolfe Tone Street, and Bobby Byrnes if I want the best fish and chips in the country.

    Oh you're right.

UCC library to Douglas in Cork is about the same - 5 k.

    Where did I get 2 k from?

    So, they both suck.

Still not as bad as UCD to Dublin city center though.
