Real Christmas Trees - Swords

Went and did our annual live Christmas Tree purchase last night. Went to Woodies who had a fine selection but the bases are not prepare for mounting to either of the common bases, the screw in one or the one where the base has to be pruned to fit into a cylindrical hole. The rather unhelpful man in the shop said you would have to pare it down with a saw and a knife which is tricky at the best of times to end up with it standing vertically as required. We sacked that off and went to the usual spot just past Pinnock hill as you head south from Swords, his trees came pre-drilled and ready to fit into one of the bases we had.

We find base #2 the easiest to screw into the tree and adjust the legs by bending to have it standing balanced and perfectly straight, It took just 2 mins to screw the base into the pre-drilled tree and align ready for decoration, so I would recommend the fella who sells them on the left hand side of the road as you travel into Swords just before the Pinnock Hill petrol station. Prices are much of a muchness and we paid €55 for an 8ft tree which fits perfectly into the lounge.

One other fun place to get your tree, especially if you have young kids, is Wade's Christmas tree farm, just off the Rathbeale Road past Kettles Hotel and Bar just outside Swords on the way to Ashbourne. The kids can wander round and pick their tree before getting the employees to bring the chainsaw and cut it down for you.

Any other recommendations for Christmas Trees in the area, I know there is also a man selling them up by the shops in River Valley but have never tried him out.

The guy in river valley is associated with St. Finians GAA club so I think a portion goes to the club, but I’m not sure on that. We paid €55 as well and he has them pre screwed on the bottom for stands like #2. We use one like #1 and it was fine. He also delivers them though and when we bought ours we stopped in a shop on the way home and the tree was standing at our door when we got home. It’s handy because we can bring the kids up and let them help pick and I don’t have to go back for it with an empty car.

Just a reminder you can re-cycle them for free at the Estuary Recycling Centre in Swords.
