Clamp removed

Hi, car was clamped a few days ago, came back and saw the clamp on it. I went away for a while as I knew it couldn’t be clamped again, and when I came back it had been removed and placed against a wall.
The clamping notice was on the windscreen. Would you ring them and explain or just let it be? It was a council clamp, could they issue me a Fine etc in the post?

    Thanks

If it was NCPS or whatever then I’d ignore it. With the council it’s different.

Would they have removed the clamp in preparation to tow away the vehicle?

Drive off and say nothing until you hear more. Must be one of those self removing clamps but lucky you have no clue how it fell off your car, well done.👍

Doubt it. It wasn’t on a main road or anything, just a side street. Wasn’t causing an obstruction either.

If you haven't already, just drive away

Rang and paid there. Don’t need that hanging over me. It’s different with the council they can follow up on it I believe

Hardly a building site near by? Often seen the lads on sites chopping them off just because

the only leverage they had over you was the clamp

    it was removed

why pay? at least make it a pita for them to chase you up... you didn't remove it.

Fair play for paying up, I hope you made sure to say you didn't remove it in case they try saying you damaged it. The council do come after you. I know from experience. The other gangster lads never do.

It was very near a hospital and there was a child seat in the car so I’d say someone took pity. It wasn’t cut funnily enough. Someone must have a master key to the clamps. Don’t need the stress of that hanging over me with the possibility of the council chasing it up. Made sure to double check on the phone that this is the end of it and it was nothing to do with me, and that the clamp was still beside the path when I left so I’m not responsible if it’s gone when they get back to it. The woman seemed fine with it, probably a bit surprised at me paying.

Generally I'd praise someone for their honesty, but seriously, what the hell

    Yeah, paying that was stupid.

    Scammed yourself there OP.
    Christ almighty.

I would have fúcked the clamp in the boot and buried it in the wicklow mountains just to spite the cúnts on top of it.

Council have rather more leverage than just the clamp, OP has said it was a council clamp

I'm actually surprised the car wasn't towed when left for that long.

Maybe I'm missing something but OP doesn't say how long the car was left?

I know it's not worth much now but I got clamped off St Stephens Green a couple of years back. Clamper printed notice, Stuck that horrible sticker that's a nightmare to get off the window but just hung the clamp chain over the front wheel. I threw it in the boot and never heard anything about it after that. It rattled around my boot for about 6 months afterwards.

the only immediate leverage to force someone to pay roadside.

With the clamp gone then sod it - let them chase you up if they are that way inclined after the fact.

yes, this. If the clamp was damaged they could follow up with a criminal damage charge.

Council clampers? They're the ones who generally park illegally on double yellows in the city centre, aren't they...

Something very similar happened to me close enough to a hospital and low and behold a locksmith overheard me practically bawling on the phone to a mate as I was so broke and didn't have the cash to pay it and next of all the lock fell off the clamp... ;)

Low and behold I met the clampers the next day and explained what happened and he said if I was illegally parked anywhere after it happening my car would be straight up towed away and not even clamped...

Changed car not long after... :)
