    Guys
Anyone notice what’s the difference in the 20 v drill has this week for €100
    https://www.lidl.ie/en/p/parkside-performance/cordless-drill-20v/p32929

Versus the 20v green one they had about a year ago for about €60

    Brushless motor. Stark difference

What is the significance of a brushless motor? (I just use 'em occasionally, no idea how they work!)

They tend to be a fair bit more efficient so better battery life and also deliver more torque. Tend to be better machines generally.

Spot on. More torque less power required no brushes meaning the motor lasts longer. All round a better unit

How does a brushless DC motor work?

I'm too lazy to Google it..

Basically there are multiple fixed coils, the magnet part rotates. Computer charges the individual coils on and off depending on where the rotor is in relation to the body of the motor, these electromagnetic thingies then push/pull the rotor and you get spinnyness.

That’s my understanding of it. The computer that tells the motor what to do, and takes the signals from the trigger is what’s gonna break long before the motor does.

I like thingies and spinnyness in an explanation. :D
