Unite the Union: Cancelling membership

I've been a member of Unite for just over a year. I have never really participated in the union and I'm about to return to education, so I've decided to cancel my membership. I've sent them an email and tried to contact them by phone but no one has responded. I can't find any information on their website about cancelling membership. Is there a simpler way?

I've never used any of the union's services and my membership costs more than my phone bill every month. I think it's quite bad form to make it this difficult to leave.

Could you ask your bank to stop paying on your behalf?? Surly, your membership will be terminated then?

You're probably right, but it would be better to cancel with Unite directly just to be sure.

Just get in touch with your HR and Payroll section by email or letter instructing them to cease payments.

Except when your union negotiates a pay rise for your grade. The government aren't going to increase pay without some pressure from the unions. If everyone leaves the union that pressure leaves too.

No, with respect, no such thing happens in my sector.
