    Hi,
We’re having a problem with our neighbours in a new development. Our house is a semi detached and their’s detached. Just before they moving in they started building an extension onto their house. We had met them a few times before this and chatted and they never mentioned it. Additionally their builders are very sloppy and they sprayed plaster all over our home and let lots of other debris and materials fall/blow into our garden. There’s been non stop building noise every weekend. It’s very frustrating.

The main problem is that the structure is right up against the fence separating our properties and it blocks a south facing downstairs window in our hall. I went over and asked them about it and they didn’t seem bothered and claimed that because it was less than 40sqm they could do what they liked. I enquired if they had an exemption and I got a blank stare. A few days later I spoke to their architect who admitted that there was no exemption obtained. We complained to the county council enforcement office and now we see a notice that they intend to apply for planning for retention of the structure.

Could anyone advise on getting help writing an objection? Would a planning agent be suitable or perhaps a building surveyor?

FWIW, is an image of it. I’ve marked the location of windows in blue.

Had they spoken to us before hand I’m sure we could have come to an understanding. If the corner closest to us was pushed back 1m that would have made a huge difference. The architect seemed oblivious and claimed he ever only met his clients for 15 minutes. It all seems so unnecessary stupid.

    EDIT: autocorrect title gore

I think you've covered the issues just fine. Have they built on the common boundary or up to it?

It’s right up to it with nothing to spare.
