Need some advice on 4 new tyres

I've a SEAT Ateca Xcellence (4wd), just had it in for a service there and I've been told all four corners need changing, I've been quoted €755 by the dealer for 4 X Bridgestone 225/50/18 W 364.

I'm not looking to cheap out on tyres, but I'm wondering if there is better value for decent quality to be has elsewhere?

For premium brand that would be normal enough pricing for that size, you could go down the route of a midrange brand like Kumho for maybe 25-30% less.

I'd never buy tyres from a car dealer as they rarely offer the best value. Your better off ringing around your local tyre centres for prices. Failing that price them online but also take into account the cost of having them fitted on top of what you pay for them.

I'd be looking at something like these mid range Hankooks:
    https://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/hankook-ventus-s1-evo3-k127-225-50-r18-99-y-xl-zr-mfs#279425107

Of if you want a premium brand - Michelin:

€755 isn't bad for 4 tyres but Bridgestones are noisy and hard. You could find better tyres for around the same price. Good options above, and I'll suggest Goodyear Eagle F1s.

Contisportcontact 6 are the nicest tyre I've driven on in a long time. I was a loyal Bridgestone user for years but recently bought a car with new contisports on it and they're very quiet and grippy. Highly recommend .

Ring around the tyre places , plenty competition for the budget stuff but the premium brands tend to be fairly similar priced around.

By the way there are many different types and speed ratings for each brand in any given size . All Bridgestone are not equal is what I'm saying. Re002 adrenalin were the best Bridgestone I used in the last 5 years.

Good channel for up to date tyre reviews. Car tyres I know but good video.

On my leon 2.0 I've previously used Bridgestone OEM, uniroyal rainsport3 (2 sets) and now using nexen nfera, bought after good bit of research. Find the nexen quietest I've used, and great grip. Cant attest to wear yet. Rainsport3 were just a bit noisy, and Seat soundproofing just not premium (like them alot otherwise)
In that size nexen nfera are 95 euro on Openeo. A rated for wet, though only E for rolling resistance if that a concern.

Any continentals I’ve had didn’t last pissing time.

Also - Wondered how long it would take before Nankangs were recommended, wasn’t disappointed

I've found not all Contis are equal in terms of mileage. I put Contipremiumcontact 6 under the Leon and they didn't last 18k km. Replaced them with Contisportcontact 5 on the same axle and they lasted 35k km. Same car, same driver, same axle.....

And no, I can't explain it either!

OP, last time I looked, Contisportcontact 6 were not available in that size. My Leon takes the same size tyre (and is running on the same MQB chassis) and all I can say is that having tried a few different tyres, stay away from Dunlop Sportmaxx.

If you are convenient to the border, I found Kwik Fit in Newry very efficient with transparent, online prices.

I can second Nexens, had them on Lexus IS250 and were brilliant. I would stay away from any Bridgestones personally, there is a lot of tires that are cheaper and perform a lot better. Vredestein makes decent tires also. You can get Vredestein Ultrac Vorti in your size for E127 per corner.

These Star Performer tyres are B rated and 250 euro plus fitting of say 80euro that's a 425 euro saving

Nexen represents a very good balance between price and quality. If you get a good tyre...

I didn't go through a lot of sets in my life - I'd guess 30 tyres maybe, but it was only Nexens that had problems in being balanced. It wasn't an issue as I got them locally and it was just replaced on the spot - I can't imagine the inconvenience when it was bought online... I read that it isn't the rarest thing to happen - so be aware.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies, could anyone recommend a few places in North Dublin City/County that do a decent price on supply and fit of tyres? I'm probably not going to go with online as I'd be looking to get them on before Christmas if possible..

If you want to go the garage route it will not be cheap or you will end up with chinese rubber.
Buy online, you'll get them delivered by Friday, make an appointment to fit them for Saturday, sorted.

European warehouses are very busy atm... One might not get the rubber on Friday, unless bought from Camskill.

Is there a lot of fitters that will fit tyres they don't supply? Additionally, should I be looking at Winter/Summer or all year? Thanks again for all this info, it's very useful!

I always recommend All-Season tyres for Irish condition. Bridgestone A005 is fantastic tyre for Irish motorist.

Mainstream fitters like Tyreland or Advance Pitstop wouldn't fit tires not supplied by them, but any indie garage will do it for you without any fuss. Just ring around places closest to your home. You can also get tires delivered directly to the designated garage. Some of the websites work with garages and you can book fitting online when placing order.

wouldn't go near All-Seasons, check some youtube independent tests, far worse in wintery conditions than summer tyres.

Why would this be not trustworthy ? Your opinion should be valid ? On what basis ?

The very point of all season tyres is to bridge the gap between summer tyres designed for warm and sometimes wet conditions and the type of weather we get in winter (cold, lots of rain, some frost and ice, the odd snow) but not all out winter tyres for regular snow and ice.

All season tyres rubber compound is specifically designed not to go off in cold weather unlike summer tyres. They have thread patterns that are designed for heavy rain. Most thread patterns are better suited to ice and frost also.

Your suggestion that summer tyres are better in the winter than all season tyres is laughable.

I said wintry conditions, not on snow.

All you said sound like a copy and paste from tyre review website, but have you actually tested side by side both types ? Check them in real life, not by reading branded descriptions.

All season better in heavy rain ? That's another bullsh1t.

Summer tyres are best on dry and clean surfaces, regardless of temperature. Add rain to the equation and summer tyre handles equally to all-season tyre when it's warmer than around 10*C. When it's colder, they are much worse.

Not with those Bridgestone A005 tyres I rate them highly in wet conditions, they clear water very efficiently. Most tyres with an arrowhead type tread pattern are good for clearing slush which is a lot worse than water.
Having used a set for the last year I can attest to their roadholding in all kinds of conditions.
If it was dry mostly then I would probably agree that summer tyres would be OK, here in Ireland, cool and damp is the order for most of the year.
99% of the conditions we encounter wouldn't warrant full winter tyres but the odd day that we do get some snow the A005 work very well.

i used that Pneus online - and will definitely in future!

Ateca with same tyres as on vehicle since new, Bridgestone Turanza T001 215/50 R18 92 W
Got 2 delivered for €176, paid fitter in Dublin think 30/ tyre. So total 236 for the pair. Was quoted about 350.

At that rate the 4 would cost €472 - way cheaper than your quoted €755.
(i went for the cheapest same spec, seems were approx 15 cheaper as had supposedly covered 20km. Either way, they still had full thread and the hedgehog spikes still on.

I'd imagine Pneus might even sell 4 at better rate.
Plus fitter may reduce fit price, from 120 to 100.

You know wha, the other day I was searching for two new front tyres for my wife's honda jazz @ 185/55/15, and I called local BestDrive they offered me two options Continental @ €135 a pop, and their very own budget tyres (BestDrive something) for €90 a pop, I Immediately hang up the phone, bloody hell €90 for an unknown brand tyre.

So I ended up calling another local tyre shop with highly recommended google reviews, and they offered me Michelin @ €100 something, Uniroyal Rainsport 5 @ €79 and Rotalla tyres @ €60 I Immediately went for Uniroyal Rainsport 5, and very pleased with it.

4 wont be any cheaper per tyre than 2

30 a tyre to get fitted is about double what I'm normally charged per tyre. I find tyreleader better than pneus and fitters affiliated with tyre leader normally charge €15 per tyre in my experience.

I didn't understand what you meant by the following did pneus sell you slightly used tyres?
