What is you hourly rate?

There seems to be a large variance between hourly and fixed rates for accountancy services at the moment. The firm we work in aims to charge a client at €150 per hour plus VAT. That fee is not billed to the client but time is recorded at that hourly rate and then some clients come in or under that but I know there are other firms in the midland that are charging €50 per hour and from general conversations at practice events other large firms were mentioning charge out rates of €250 per hour.

There doesn't seem to be any consistency in the accountancy market when it comes to fees. For example, we were charging €300 plus VAT for a income tax return with PAYE and rental income, we lost a client to another firm who were charging €90 plus VAT! I read over on AAM that one accountant said they wouldn't open an income tax file for less than €400 plus VAT because it wasn't worth it when they considered the risk, AML and work that needs to be done.
