Can anyone explain exactly the situation re vrt on a used phev from January?
Everything I read says that it just has to have emissions of under 65g to qualify for vrt relief. Yet in budget there was mention of 50km range requirement.
Also 530e which has only 30km or so range seems to have been deleted from seai site re new cars that 5k grant applies to.
I can't figure out if they have now split the requirements that need to be met depending on whether you are looking for the 5k seai grant or the vrt rebate.

    Correct

That relates to the grant if you buy new in Ireland so not applicable for imports, AFAIK.

Yes, thats what they've done. They dont want to give grants for hybrid's/PHEV anymore but they are still happy to give you VRT relief if you bring one in as its better than bringing in a diesel so that makes sense.

The revenue text for the SEAI grant when buying new in Ireland is below and is already in force(not Jan 2020)
    Electric Vehicle Purchase Grants
The range and emissions standards for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will also be changed with the minimum battery range increasing from 20km to 50km and the maximum emissions reducing from 65 to 50 gCO2/km.

The VRT for imports stuff is here
Relief for hybrid electric vehicles and PHEVs is being extended until 31 December 2020. Hybrid electrics with CO2 emissions in excess of 80 g/km and PHEVs with CO2 emissions in excess of 65 g/km do not qualify for the VRT relief from 1 January 2020.

Most PHEV's are <50gCo2/km so will still qualify for the relief in Jan 2020 but you should check first using the VRT calculator.

    Interesting.
So the 530e bmw at 46g co2 I'm looking at can still be imported in 2020 and get the rebate. So with 5k grants gone here for this particular car, the UK ones will be even more of a saving compared to new Irish retail prices unless bmw ireland just knock 5k off their price.
