Need a new horse.

But requirements are low. Mostly browsing/printing,media player, basic stuff.

Off the shelf would do me I'd say, top i3, 4gb ram, SSD.

But where to buy?

Don’t skimp at 4gb ram. For another 20-30 you’ll get 8gb and save you a lot of frustration.

Sorry for your loss! It must be a difficult time but in time you'll be able to accept it and move on.

Don't go for anything less than i5, 8GB RAM. I'd advise to go for a refurb aswell and save yourself a few hundred quid.

as above. save yourself the hassel and go to PC world. gasp shock horror.
really depends on your budget. stick to above, no less, and decide based on price, monitor size, keyboard , and just "how you like it". browse shops now, get some deals, or new years, but they do put their crap out

Just the tower I need, I didn't think B&M would be even worth checking!?

Currys have an ok selection but I would say the big problem on the lower end is that while they are perfectly fine machines a lot of them don't come with an SSD which I would say is more or less essential in this day and age.

something like this is well balanced enough and should last years and be very fast, has a great ssd drive. Get it without windows and install yourself, takes 30 minutes and costs nothing, works forever in trial mode.

Honestly id go with K.O.Kiki`s build he suggested but if you dont want to build then id buy a refurb Optiplex , i picked one up myself last year for €120 from GreenIT (i5 3470 8Gb RAM, 2TB mechanical drive), just threw an SSD and a 1050TI on it , its a great all rounder, great for light gaming, light video editing, it even acts as the plex server for the house. I was surprised how much of a work horse it is.

No OS means no OS. You won't be able to use the PC for anything. You need to find a way to make a Boot USB, be it from a friend's laptop/PC or from work. You could even make a linux boot drive if you wanted to keep the size down. Install, use linux to make a windows boot drive, and then install windows. Ubuntu is much more user friendly than it used to be, so it is even an option to stick with it if this is just a browsing and media machine.

Most companies will have a non activated version installed regardless to run tests on the machine and ensure it's working and stable. Maybe not every company but most. AWD definitely do.
