Rescheduling NCT-more than once?

    Hi all,

My original NCT was due in late October but I wasn’t able to book it in then.
I rescheduled it for next week and something has come up now with work which means I won’t be able to bring it in this time either.

From those in the motoring know is there any issue with having to reschedule NCT twice?
Realistically it won’t suit me now to do it till into the new year.

Car is in perfect roadworthy condition, not avoiding getting NCT done....just work things and fact I don’t have another person who can bring it for me means I have to put it off for second time....

    Appreciate any replies.

You can do it as many times as you like I think. Have certainly done it a half dozen times as more suitable windows open up for me.

Are you telling me that you were unable to book an appointment in an NCT in the country on any of the 7 days of the week between early morning to late evening in 2 months?

You have only booked it once. The original date is just the due date, not an actual booking, they stopped giving out pre-selected dates years ago.

The issue you have is that you are driving a car with no valid NCT so could be pulled for it, it could also mean any insurance claim (not 3rd party) is declined depending on the policy terms.

You can reschedule as many times as you want. Apart from possible additional charges for nct if you reschedule at short time notice they don't care.

If you do drive the car there is a risk, though.

If you are asking if having the booking confirmation is enough for Gardaí to let you go then the answer is no or maybe. Depends on who you meet.

That excuse is long gone though with nct centres open on weekends and late evenings. There are many slots available these days ;)

How many points could you get if meeting a diligent guard?

Am not a chancer, didn’t realise there could be an issue with insurance if you had accident without NCT,lot of stuff going on at mo so haven’t prioritised it to get done tbh as car is shipshape and I’m a careful driver.

    Thanks for all replies.

Could be 5 points for no insurance. A car has to be road worthy to be insured and while the NCT doesn't guarantee the car is road worthy not having an NCT means the car can't legally be on the road* so the car can't be road worthy.

*there are a few specific circumstances you can drive without a valid NCT, not having time to get it tested isn't one of them

Why not ask the NCT directly?
