HAd the car in for a service. Its a 172 golf.

They identified an oil leak coming from the engine area.

This was traced to a fault with the Rocker cover which needs replacing.

Got quoted a price of €580 for parts and labour.

Would I get it cheaper if I shopped around?

That's an outrageous price. Get it out of there , probably not leaking at all.

hardly something else like a rear main seal which is leaking and is related to PCV valve on the rocker cover?
The gasket for a rocker cover would be peanuts and it's hard to see 3 or 4 hours labour to replace it.

    No extended warranty cover ?

is this out of warranty already , have had quite a few 1.6tdi s with rocker covers leaking were they form the 2 parts together but haven't seen it on any of the newer stuff yet.
