    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/this-is-no-place-for-holy-statues-carmelite-nun-at-centre-of-planning-row-at-skibbereen-court-969591.html

It’s a really long story so the snippets are only part of the story. It’ll take you a few minutes to scroll.

What I’m curious about is the apparently abusive nun the enforcement officer encountered and the language she apparently used.

The Carmelite Nun of the Holy Face of Jesus faced one charge of an alleged breach of Section 154 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, in relation to an unauthorised development at Corran South near the village of Leap in West Cork.

When the matter was first heard last May, Judge James McNulty allowed Sr Irene and her younger colleague, New Zealander Sr Anne Marie, until yesterday to address issues at the site and to relocate.

But back in court yesterday, it was clear that matters had not been finalised and Sr Irene said she was pleading not guilty to the charge.
Philip O'Sullivan, executive planner with Cork Co Co, served the Nun with a notice on July 2018 in relation to six issues: unauthorised access to the site, a steel storage container, a wooden chapel, seven pods or as he described them, garden sheds, a large concrete base, and a two-storey cladded green structure.

On visiting the site last Monday he was "met by a very abusive Nun", he said, adding "various disparaging words were said of me".

Irene Gibson the so-called Mother Superior, of a self styled Order, has a very long history.

Best to read the entire article.

NB friends of ours offered support and help but were rebuffed so we know her well,

Basically she started out as a Canon 603 hermit within the Catholic Church then turned against the RC church. There are videos on youtube.
There are many articles on this online, on foot of her earlier court appearance

She set up in Drummin to start a community. raised money locally..
We visited her there. It was much the same set up as at Leap; wooden huts.

That failed and she sold up and lived in Athlone then suddenly started the Leap, Cork venture with no planning permission and no intention of getting that. Just flouting the law quite deliberately and knowingly and thinking she would be allowed to do so

The only person to join her is the young NZ girl who is the one who offered abuse both at the site and in court. Astounding and inexcusable conduct indeed. She verbally attacked the council in court with very emotive and abusive language.

This is not a religious order like eg the Mercy Sisters or Poor Clares. It has no reality in the Church and no approval or recognition from any Church.

She has a tenuous link with the Old Catholic Church for Mass.

Just Irene Gibson as a self styled Reverend Mother. NB no connection with the existing excellent , genuine Irish Carmelites.

I'd be having nun of that.

NB. As Sister Ann Marie. the young one who was verbally abusive on both occasions. is under a Vow of Holy Obedience to her Superior, Irene Gibson who made no move to stop her tirade in court? She knew and approved the abuse therefore.

Your mention of a vow of holy obedience made me wonder -do nuns do kinky lesbian sex stuff? The answer appears to be yes

Maybe the verbal abuse was just her Kiwi 'accint'? ;)

So you’re saying it’s just a Sister Act?

Interesting that her main point in that interview was her assertion, " We will not be moved. "

She had no intention of obeying the law.

As was said in court, the law applies to everyone.

Also her neat "gagging" of Joe re events at Drummin.

West Cork does attract some nutters.

Fake nuns, that's a new one though.

Really? Yet to meet a Nun that wasn't a truly horrible human being.

    Unlucky for you :(

My aunt is a nun and has given up her entire adult life to help children around the world in orphanages etc, she isn't dogmatic, has no interest in conversions or any of that lark, she genuinely just likes helping.

She is anything but a horrible human being, doesn't mean there aren't a large amount of horrible nuns out there however. But just wanted to say that they're not all bad :o

No she isn't Palmerian. Joe Duffy asked her that . On that interview she IDs herself as RC and allegiance to Pope Francis, but in other ways she IDs with "old catholic" . Latin Mass.. and is on bad terms with the local Bishop. A law unto herself in some ways.

Whatever. as the Judge and planning officer say. she is not above the law. Period, She has been convicted and will be sentenced in April.

And will be leaving the Leap site; which she says she has had an offer for. So justice has been done .

Agree totally. Have known Poor Clare who are the soul of human kindness, and many others. We tend to hear of the bad ones not the strong quiet ones.

Known plenty of lovely nuns too, and I'm not religious at all - they were a great source of support to my gran when she was suddenly widowed, and to her dying day 34 years later.

she said she was a Carmelite Nun of the Holy Face of Jesus. The holy face of jesus is also used by the palamarians. maybe it is just a coincidence.

It is a fairly common focus for adoration etc,

The full title of her "solo plus one Sr" order is Victim Adorers of the Holy Face of Jesus.

In her previous try at founding an order, it was Sisters of St Mary Immaculate and St Philomena. That web site is still online.
