Best 7 seater family car?

My last used car was Opel Zafira 2006.

My Opel Zafira 2010 7-seater's engine gone yesterday and i've only used this car for one year and few weeks, my mechanic said it has to be scraped. Same problem with my last Zafira.

I'm looking for another 7-seater car to buy that won't give me same engine problem like Opel Zafira, i need something that has a big back seat that will take all the kids, have two extra seats and sacious boot for shoppings when needed.

My thinking on range of 7-seater cars:

Toyota Corrola Verso.... a little small?
Nissan Qashqai +2... a little small?
    Peugeot 5008 ?
    Mazda 5 ?
    Grand C4 Picasso?
    Ford S-Max?

Had an smax, nothing but trouble even though I liked it ‘‘twas dangerous.
I now have a sharan 2 litre diesel and it’s great and all the car we’ll ever need.

About 7 years ago we bought a c4 grand picasso and I told mrs it was going to be a bloody lemon and useless , troublesome , electrics are going to electrocute us all and kids...break down on a weekly basis..

7 years later and not a thing has gone wrong with it ... we might possibly have got the only one in existence that hasn't....either that it mrs is secretly getting it fixed behind my back just so she can be right which is possible....

We have a kia carens and love it. It's not too big looking for a 7 seater but has 3 full seats in the back and 2 in boot when needed.

Hi All - following up further re this we currently have a Peugeot 5008 as our family car which is tipping away fine and meets our current needs for 3 children with some needing iso fix seats. Am looking to change my wife’s car (Skoda Fabia combi) and with the missus expecting again and wanting to hold onto boot space to hold double buggy what is next practical car size up are we talking a Volkswagen transporter or are there other potential models out there. Any thoughts/recommendations greatly appreciated?

Caddy max, transit connect lwb, still think the Sharon and galaxy may work too.

Be worth having a look and see what you are happy with.

Don't forget transporter will be much more difficult parking.

What happened both Zafira engines? I only ask as I've owned several Vauxhalls over the years and never had major issues.
Currently have a 2.0 Zafira tourer and find it brilliant.

I know 2 people with the Picasso and despite the bad image both have never had a single issue over the years.

Same here we had our grand Picasso for 7 years nothing thankfully went wrong. Serviced it well with the proper grade oil.
Upgraded to a 9 seater vivaro recently for extra space. I do like to live on the edgeðŸ˜

Mazda 5 is not a 7 seater, unless you have an incredibly thin family member.

Peugeot Rifter or New Berlingo. People love them or hate them but if it is your thing and prioritise functionality over esthetics it could be an option.

I have a Rifter and love it...I have only had it for a few weeks so long term reliability is an unanswered question...having said that, most of taxis are Tepees/Rifters so I expect it to be reliable enough.Time will tell.

OP, I have an smax and couldn’t fault it. Never had any trouble, though it’s only 6 yrs old, and great space.
Other poster, I have 4 kids and the smax is our only car. If I was changing, I’d probably change to a galaxy, but I can still fit my double buggy in the boot with the back seats up currently, when I have a couple of extra passengers. I usually keep my eldest in the front and use my full boot, but if I have to bring the hubby and need more space, I just put up one of the boot seats and leave the other folded.

Peugeot 5008 or Ford S Max would be where I'd be looking if in this end of the market

I find the Prius cramped to be hones. The plus I'm sure is better of course.

Is Toyota Verso, 2011, MPV 2.0 litre, 7 Seaters a reliable car?

Yes. But it’s 9 years old and god knows how it’s been maintained or what’s lurking. Get it properly checked out.

Aren’t those SkyActiv engines meant to be trouble. Besides, the cx5 isn’t a 7 seater.

Have a Galaxy at the moment and never though of buying new but the rifter/berligno/combi life seems well priced. Couple of questions:

The Rifter / Berlingo / Combi Life are essentially the same car (well two cars as there is a LWB version). Different reviews I've read have favored some over the others anyone here in the know/trade have an opinion. The combi looks best on price but worst on looks. The berlingo is supposedly the best ride and the Rifter is has good ride/ looks.

Also if you have driven one of these how do you compare the ride to the Galaxy? I have the 2L galaxy and she is a nice cruiser. Looking at probably the 1.5 130 Diesel. Would love to see these in a PHEV.

That's because they are not cars, they are vans with seats.

I ran a Kangoo for a couple of years, really cheap which was important at the time, but what a comedown from the likes of a Galaxy.

The one upside is that French vans have very soft comfy suspension as long as you don't drive it like a car.

One minus point I note is that Seats didn't fold flat like no most modern mpvs so if you want to max the boot space you need to remove and store them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

    Ford Galaxy
    Seat Albrahama
    VW Sharan

These are the only true full 7 seat mpv options.
All the rest of the yolks out there have smaller seats, smaller boots or some other weird and wonderful annoyance.

Ford galaxy is the cheapest of the three and after two years of owning mine I can’t fault it.

I’ve had fully grown adults in the back two full seats a few times and they’re stunned at how comfortable it is.

A friend has the S Max. Whilst it looks sportier if that’s even possible for such ugly vehicles it loses the proper back two seats and has crappy small seats that you can’t move forward or back which is a pain for boot space and people that you carry other than small kids.

Th Voyager? That was a proper bus alright but rare enough here mainly due to the 3ltr engine, I think it was 3ltr. So tax, insurance etc

...edit, haven’t seen one of these in years and then the morning I saw one.

I saw a 192 D Voyager in University of Limerick last month, thought Trump was in town.

There's no dealer at all in Ireland so why anyone would buy one over a Merc V class is beyond me.
