Hi have I just been lucky for the last three years and is RTE player extremely poor ? Haven’t had any issues up until last week.

Can’t use it at all now as it’s freezing too many times when I try to watch anything.

    Any thoughts ? Thanks

It's just crap, I've tried it on different devices across different internet connections and it's bad on each one. Hasn't a problem playing ads though!

Same with me - various devices and ISP providers etc and it can't be relied upon to play anything properly.... except ads. It has been the same experience for me for many years now, despite several improvements and re-launches.

It's unreliability would actually encourage people to go looking for other and probably illegal sources.

Indeed, and on top of that it hasn't even a Pause option - unless I'm just too stupid to see it. Also the most difficult place to find anything. Search is totally useless. Like I searched for Cat Hospital (the show is called The Cat Hospital) and the search picked up two items, none of which were even remotely related !!

It is impossible to watch anything.
Several different devices and connections and they all buffer and stop.

It's not fit for purpose, the government should deduct 20% of the licence fee monies from them until they get it right. There should also be no advertising on it except what went out with the show originally with ability to skip through it. It's state funded broadcasting with legal action should you not have the licence so should resemble what BBC offer and not Channel 5.

Irish TV licence took in €226 million (net) in 2014. TV licence in the UK took in £3.83 billion in 2017-18 (both figures from wikipedia). Even if the figures are not 100% accurate, you can't really compare the 2. That's one of RTÉ's biggest issues here, they get compared to BBC, but it's really apples and oranges...

The service worked perfectly fine when Adblocker knocked out the ads, less was spent on it then. It's crooked poor design that's the problem, not setup cost.

The old version of the RTÉ Player had the same complaints.

I've never been able to watch anything on it, except the ads of course. A disgrace that it's been like that for years, typical public sector, like it or lump it attitude

Live streaming is a problem most of the time but I find Chromecasting non live programs works great as it doesn't do ads for some reason.
