New one - Undertaking on the hard shoulder on Motorway

Was heading home on the M4 today and was quite busy so a line of traffic in the outside lane most of the time. Anytime looked like someone wanted to belt on I pulled into the driving lane to let them by instead of having a tailgater. Was kind of pointless for anyone to try and put pressure on anyone else in the outside lane because of the almost constant line of overtaking cars.

One lad in a noisy boy racer type car had a novel approach, when he couldn't get any further undertaking in the driving lane he would belt up the hard shoulder to overtake both lanes :). Really need some sort of token enforcement of the laws on the road apart from trying to catch people out driving over the limit in places where a little speed is in reality not dangerous

I regularly see this on the car park N7 in the mornings.

I see the same every morning on the m4/n4 .... while I’m sitting in traffic there is a row of cars zipping up the hard shoulder ....some I have witnessed taking the slip road off others have disappeared out of sight, it’s often within 2km of motorway exit.

Recently the gardai have been positioned near Lucan and I have witnessed them pulling at least 3 vehicles this week driving in the bus lane on the n4 (near woodies), I have seen one van driver pulled about 2yrs ago, driving in bus lane and have recently seen same van driving in bus lane (I know it’s the same person, because they live near me and the van is easily identifiable) .... anyhoo point is... driving in hard shoulder/bus lane is common.

You can also observe people driving up the slip road and down the other slip road back onto the motorway, it can save several minutes of sitting in traffic.

Yep, see the same in the mornings Eastbound when traffic slows but this is totally different. Traffic in the outside lane was moving at 120/130kph. This lad moved into the hard shoulder on open motorway and was driving about 140/150kph there to pass both lanes, crazy

Yeah N7 for me too and see it regularly.

It saves them about 6 car lengths and then they're stuck like the rest of us.

    Sure it keeps them happy.

Funny enough, they usually force their way into the middle or right lane next.
And they're the 2 lanes that move slowest on busy Irish motorways.
So you end up moving past them again within a couple of minutes.

My only hope when they do lose control on all that grit and pebbles is they flip left as opposed to right.
