    Hi all,

Looking for advice regarding current situation, I'm a qualified experienced (5yr) cabinet maker, have been self employed approx 2yrs, business never took off, no money blablabla, I also am dealing with recovering from severe depression which doesn't help. I've had no steady income in over 2yrs, at the mo considering 1 of 3 things, 1, stick at current business and seek mentor or similar, 2, go back to employment as cabinetmaker, 3, career change, possibly engineering/mechanical

    Any advice appreciated, tks!

If the stresses of your business were a contributing factor towards your depression, then may be going back to employment might suit you best. Getting a good solid routine going, with less stress might be a great thing in your recovery from depression

I would agree; give it a try for another year or two, get some money saved up, see how you feel about changing career then. Going back to study, particularly if you will also have to work in some capacity to support yourself, can be a stressful-enough proposition itself.

    From the outside looking in...

I’d look at getting back to being employed. A steady income, steady work, steady routine in a positive team atmosphere....

The beauty of your situation is that you could keep the business as and when a call might come and some work presents itself, there is an extra income there... but you are not stressing, waiting for the phone to ring.

In time it would likely be the case the more work you do, the more you’d get so you could trade down to part time in the company and when the business is fully and well established leave and dedicate your time to it.

Very difficult to bet the horses on the business from day one.
