Kitchen tap cold water shut off valve

    Hi folks

    So I've a leaky cold water tap in the kitchen. Was looking to replace the washer but noticed that there is no shut off valve for the tap under the sink but there is one for the hot water.

    Is there a reason for this do ye reckon? House is 12 years old.

    Is it worth adding one while I have the water off?

    If you're sure the valve that's there IS for the hot water, because I would consider it very unusual for the hot water valve to be under the sink - it's usually on the cold feed from the attic tank to the cylinder in the hot press, and that the cold water valve isn't further down the pipe, then you'll probably have to turn the water off at the roadside stopcock.

    And, Yes, you should add a stopcock/shutoff valve while the water's off.
