How long does it take for a new logbook to get posted out?

As above, how long can I expect to wait after its been sent off to Shannon. I bought the car a week ago and am worried about getting caught for tax and parking fines as I can't get a new tax disc or residential disc until it arrives.

Who did you buy off, dealer or private?
Do you know for sure when it was actually sent?
You can ring them to make sure its arrived.

I bought it off a dealer. He said he'd be sending it off after we completed the deal and he handed us the keys a week ago today. I checked on Motortax.ie today and its still registered with the dealer. I do plan on ringing to confirm he has actually sent it off, I just wanted to check in here to see what the normal wait time would be assuming he sent it off when he said he did.

    I wouldn't. Give them a call first.

Most proper dealers these days can do the change of ownership online.

Check the motor tax online website here to see if the change of ownership process has began:

Yea check it online and you can also request the pin to tax it. I got the pin for my fathers car Saturday after the garage submitted the ownership transfer on friday.

I bought/collected an import from a dealer last Tuesday (26 Nov). It was registered on Tuesday morning, still in their name on Friday, in my name on Motor Tax on Sunday, and I received notification from Shannon yesterday. Insurance disc arrived on Monday, and Tax disc arrived yesterday. I haven't received the VLC yet.

It's coming up on 12 days 8 work days since I bought the car and it's still registered with the dealer on Motortax.ie. Has it taken this long for anyone else. Is it the time of the year in Shannon, a lot of cars changing hands, or is the dealer taking the piss?

Bought off a dealer 3 weeks ago on a Saturday.
Was able to tax the car by Wednesday.
    They did change online.

    Ring him

    I emailed a query to
    motortax@dttas.gov.ie
They were able to tell me the status. Took a few hours to respond

Most proper dealers can do the change of ownership online these days. Was this a backstreet type or part time dealer? If they were doing it the pre online way then wouldn't they have got you to sign the old logbook before sending it off?

You might have to go down and pester them into doing it assuming they got the logbook from the previous owner at all when buying the car off them.
