Insuring 3 cars

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice on what would be the best way or any options for insuring 3 cars between 2 people.

There’s currently 3 cars in the house between myself and my mam and I’m looking for the best way to insure them all. We’ve an 05 colt which is the daily driver with my mam as the main policy holder and me as a named driver. She also has a 95 mr2 on a classic policy with autoline. The 3rd car is a 98 starlet glanza (non turbo) that I’m looking to get back on the road.

Unfortunately I lived abroad for a few years so lost my 7 years no claims but have a year as a name driver built back up, so it’s looking at around €3k + to insure the starlet in my own name. I’m 27 with full clean license since 2010

Ideally the colt would remain the main car with the 2 other ones for occasional use. I’d rarely use the car myself, maybe once or twice a month. As far as I know autoline don’t do named drivers on classic policies so that wouldn’t be an option. The other option I looked at was my mam taking out a policy on the starlet with me as named driver but if I’m correct you can only apply your NCB to one policy so again that would come in very expensive.

I could take out a policy on the colt myself as the main driver but then that would void the classic policy on the mr2 unless she were to take out another regular policy.

Basically I’m just wondering what the best way to do it would be, or if there’s any companies that would do a classic policy with a named driver that would take on the starlet? Thanks!

I have someone as a named driver on my car. Nothing was ever presented or enquired regarding their NCB. Just when they recieved their license and if they've been in any accidents, or held any current penalty points.

You can have multiple cars on a classic policy once the main policy holder has a non-classic policy that's active.

In this case your mams main policy on the colt covers her having multiple classic cars on a policy. I would have her contact autoline about adding the starlet to your existing policy on the mr2 and see what they quote with adding you as a named driver. You havent asked them specifically about being added to the policy, it may be an option? You're already over 25 which is normally the first hurdle...

Alternatively you would have to insure the Colt in your name with your new 1+ year named driver experience and have your Mam insure the Mr2 or the starlet as her main car using her NCB (see which one is cheaper) then either of you can insure the 3rd car as a classic and once you have a main policy and are over 25 you are covered to drive the classic car.

Of course verify all of the above with your insurer(s) as some policies may be worded differently!!
