We are looking to automate our processes. Currently, when a user sumbits a form on our website we need to manually submit this info into our software system.

Does anyone have experience developing an API or have an idea of what the cost may be?

Based on the information you've given, budget somewhere between €500 and €20,000.

What's your website written in? What's your software system written in? What's in the form? Does your software system already have an api?

You may not need an API / Web Service. Your current website, where does the submitted form end up - a file in sharepoint, a row in a spreadsheet? What's the nature of your software system - is it a database or a CRM?

There are automation tools like Integromat or Microsoft Flow (now called Power Automate) which can join up systems in simple workflows which anyone with any level of technical skill should be able to set up in minutes.
