My car is off road for 1-2 weeks and I need to rent or lease a car for work. Does anyone specialize in longish low cost rentals. Not too worried about spec or age of car, must be cheap though.

Any of the price comparison websites will point you to some good deals, as you are before Christmas you'll get a cheap deal.
Sky Scanner, etc. Depending on where you work, would Go Car be an option?

    Hi,

Car is stuck at a Pharma plant in Clondalkin for 10-12 hours per day. GoCar is only cost-effective on short rentals.

Most main dealers keep a few older cars for loan to a prospect who is between cars (e.g. waiting for a specific car to be traded in) or who are having major repairs carried out. It's called a 'replacement car' and involves you transferring your policy to their car for the duration. If someone can facilitate you, the procedure is that you bring in your driving licence and insurance cert, the receptionist phones your insurance to get the policy temporarily transferred, hands you the keys and away you go. Expect a scruffy runaround that hasn't been cleaned (inside or out) in a while.

As you are providing the insurance and the cars are usually not anywhere near rental grade, they're much cheaper than a straight rental from Hertz, Avis etc..
