    Quick question folks
I have just received a letter from a car finance company. I purchased a car last year and it turns out that the registration number on the agreement is not my car. Error between dealer and finance company.
They have asked me to sign a disclaimer with new correct registration but car make is still incorrect.
I have paid 12 months repayments to date.
Thoughts or advice folks. Oh ps it is a reasonably expensive car.

You borrowed it, pay it back..

Inform the company of all the correct details, sign the new form and carry on with your life.

You still owe the money it’s just the security that is in question.

Stop paying and they may not be able to repossess the car but they can still chase you for the money

So who owns the car you are driving?

Do you think you will get 'your' car for free? If so go see a solicitor, I'm sure they're the best people to outline your options.

Where is the OP asking for a free car? They corrected the reg but the car model is still wrong.

OP, tell them you won't sign anything until all the details are correct.

    .

Why worry about reading the OP properly when we can jump down the poster’s throat instead.

I am not asking to get a free car. Just should I sign or get legal advice. I have been paying for a Nissan leaf but own a BMW. I don't want to be paying for a car that I may not own. Even the disclaimer form that was sent to me has correct reg but model of car is still incorrect.

I'm genuinely unsure if I understand the question here - What is the issue with giving the correct car details and signing the form? I don't understand the issue there (perhaps I'm overlooking something?).

You won't get a free car because they'd just take you to court and no judge would take your side on this, as it's clearly a small error on the other party.

If it's something like, they've valued your repayments at Nissan Leaf costs, but now want to charge a load more because the value of the car is higher, then I can understand a reason for wanting to fight it or seek legal advice, but I otherwise can't see what the problem is?

Once the details are corrected you'll still own the car anyway. Without correcting the details you'll have a car that, even if they can't repossess it, you'll never get a loan again and have a car that will never sell as it'll always have finance outstanding on it? (again, just my presumptions, perhaps I'm reading it wrongly).

Just contact a qualified professional who can advise you on this matter rather than taking advice from random Internet folk who think their Harvey Spector.

Jesus people makes things so difficult when they’re clearly not.

OP don’t sign the new contract, send it back with the correct details for the car and registration on it and ask them to send a new contract with the correct details on it.

There’s nothing difficult about this, it was an error and you simply point it out and await the new contract.

Thanks all for advice. Been doing a bit of research and making a few calls. On cartel no finance outstanding on my bmw, seems I have been paying 398 euro per month on a152 Nissan leaf. I tried to trade the car in last month to upgrade to a hybrid, the dealer cancelled the deal without explaining, all making sense now, a mess.
Advised to see a solicitor ASAP.

What a car crash of a thread. OP is just worried he may not legally own the car at end of agreement. Just get it in writing that your payments up to now have been clearing finance on your car and get the details changed

To be fair, the OP never actually outlined what the issue/potential issue was. So everyone trying to respond to help out a bit was just guessing what they think the issue may be and replying as such.
