Hi I was with Eir for nearly two years for broadband home phone and two mobiles. In october I switched the two mobiles to a new provider. I'm looking into switching broadband but I noticed on my Eir app that my broadband is now in contract until November 2020. I chatted with Eir on the app and the guy told me because I made changes to my bundle that I am automatically recontracted and I now cant get out of it. Nobody ever told me this would happen. Can Eir recontract me without my permission?

What period was the original contract for and what change did you make to the bundle? My limited experience in this regard has been that they can extend contracts but have to specifically tell you that before they do so, but with Eir Murphy's Law applies on the double.

If it's worth a few quid, then I'd be asking them to provide the recording where you agreed to this contract extension. Eir can be, and usually are, a nightmare to deal with in these scenarios.

The original contract was for 18 months and I was out of this contract with four months. The change was removing the two mobile numbers from the bundle which was done on 27.10.19. They are now saying I was automatically put into a new contract on 16.11.19 for a year for the broadband and home phone. I received nothing from Eir about the new contract and I've looked on their website and cant find any information about this. I now want to switch broadband and leave Eir altogether but if I'm in a new contract they will probably charge a cancellation fee. Worst company ever

It takes two people to agree a contract so I'd take issue if it was indeed 'automatic'. Entering you into a contract for removing items from a bundle that was out of contract is just nonsensical anyhow. Maybe someone else can chime in with how to best deal with it, but I'd take a guess that you're entitled to view/access whatever contract they say you two are in and where you agreed to it. It's just Eir are a dose to deal with will be the main issue you'll have.
