Viral Pneumonia in my shed

In the last 3 days I’ve had 3 calves and a 15 month bull with pneumonia. One vet told me to vaccinate. Another told me that the vaccine won’t work for 7 days and the threat will have passed by then. I’m not trying to save the price of the vaccine but I don’t want to stress them vaccinating right now if it’s pointless. Any opinions?

Are they getting better with treatment?

Yes. Still coughing a bit but good form and breathing.

The single shot vaccination up the nose is supposed to start working quickly. It might be worth giving it to the worst affected calves.
Are these bought in animals? Have they been treated for worms?

Take advice from you Vet, be aware that inter-nasal is a Live vaccine, all the animals in the group have to be vaccinated. The same rules don't apply with an inactivated vaccine.

Do you know which virus it is? If you don't, you're looking at two intranasal vaccines, one for IBR and a combined one for PI3/RSV. It takes 5 days for RSV protection, 10 days for PI3. Lasts 12 weeks.
The IBR live works in 7 days and works for 3 months.

Depending on the numbers or percentage of animals affected it, and how badly, it may be wiser to 'ride the tiger' or treat the group with CTC powder.
