From 20+ yrs on from choosing mine...
Try and find a career you have genuine interest in.
It's going to occupy 4yrs of college and a 3rd of your life as an adult.
No job is going to bring you constant joy, more constant ball break...
    But!
If it's something you have an interest in, its easier to live with.

Also don't be afraid to retrain, change your mind or anything else.
    It's not a permanent choice.
I'm back in uni as a 1st year, to change from a career I was successful at, to one I have an interest in.

Good luck with your choice, don't get into the mindset of chasing a salary.
See that with a lot of Ty and 5th years at the mo, chasing lists of best paid jobs with no real inkling as to their aptitude or application.

Can you tell me what you enjoy, what you don't enjoy, what you're good at, and what you're not good at?

Also, how much do you value money and showing off?

Also, are you sociable or not?

This is such a hard question to answer. I used to think I was good at maths but I did a semester in maths science in college and hated it tbh. I loved home ec and learning about nutrition. I enjoy sports such as sailing, horseriding, skiing (all funded by bank of mom and dad at the moment I'm embarrased to say). I don't think I would like a job working at a computer all day. I really love spending time with my friends, family and horses. Love meeting new people. Love walking into rooms and deciding how to make them better on the spot so I was thinking architecture or design but tbh my art skill arn't that great. I think I would want to help someone in some way. Love love love looking after my little siblings but not so much other peoples kids. Honestly just want to be a mom ahhahah.

Also, how much do you value money and showing off?

I don't care much for showing off, but I really do want a nice house. I will drive a crappy car no problem. Also I suppose I do have really expensive hobbies with sailing, horseriding and skiing.

Also, are you sociable or not?

I'm very sociable, I get bored very easily if I can't talk to people.

Seems like a role involving people is right for you.

    Nurse?

    Sales?

Is your career guidance councellor any help? I remember doing different aptitude tests to discover strengths and weaknesses.

Focus on the subjects you like and why.
Try using the websites Qualifax or Careers Portal. You can find loads of courses by key words, type of qualification, etc.

Try not to be swayed by where your friends are going. Don't be dismissive of a course that interests you because it's not in one of the bigger universities.

I liked business studies and accountancy in school.

    So I did a B.Comm. at college.

In that course, I liked economics.

    So I specialised in that.

Your degree doesn't tie you into a certain career anymore. I studied mechanical engineering, I now work in data analytics.

Look at your hobbies, and see if one of them could be turned into a job?

Hrm. Possibly Human Resources? Possibly an event manager? Not sure what sociable jobs that there are.

    Sales / marketing.
    Personal relationships can be key.

To be honest the idea of one career is over. You'll get a qualification in something and possibly work at it for a while and then specialise in one area or do I what I did and retrain. Currently I'm in what I would call the third phase of my work career. Totally different from what I first qualified in.

    Sorry to hijack the thread.

Did anyone ever specialise in one area of third level degree, and then use their degree to get into another line of work?

Say in the case where the career in which the degree is based don't value the degree qualification, did anyone ever change job/ career to a job where the degree is actually valued by the employer?
