How can i access the ESB 50kW chargers, my access card no longer works because payment is required and the "BOSCH charge my ev" app does not accept my laser card as it says it needs paypal or credit card & the new ESB ecars app is nowhere to be seen, many thanks for that ESB, did the ESB do this on purpose to get people to panic sign up?

I have noticed that the usage for many chargers in my area has dropped a 0 after the 18th, way to go ESB!

I am an infrequent user and we'll probably only charge a handful of times a year so I am not signing up to anything, I want the pay-as-you-go option just as a backup.

Can i just simply use my laser card at the charger, this is the way that it ought to be.

You can sign up on the ESB Ecars website, the website is mobile friendly too,

you can sign up for for free for the first year before then end of November, or sign up for a pre paid account. where you get a RFID card in the post. You can also use the ecars website to start or stop the charge too. The new app has been "coming soon" for ages.

Do Laser cards still exist? i thought they were killed of years ago in favour of "proper" debit cards.

Just to add to this when you sign up, If you have an existing access card this can be linked to your account so no need to wait for a new one

Isn't laser long dead? ESB sent multiple communications about this over the last few months. Plenty on the radio too. And loads here on boards.

As ESB made pretty clear, you need to sign up and register your current ECars card against your new account. From there, you can select a Pay as you go option.

Pay as you go option requires you top up with credit.

You can use this map to activate chargers and all that but you will have to sign up: https://myaccount.esbecars.com/findCharger

Yeah it was properly killed off in 2014. Do "ATM" cards even exist now?

Maybe OP is saying laser but meaning a mastercard or visa debit?

If its either of them that should work with any of the payment services

Yeah i mean debit card, you should not have to sign up for anything you should just be able to use your debit card at the charger it's a bunch of horse****.

When you fill with petrol or diesel you just fill up and pay & dont sign up for anything, no wonder most ppl wont move over to EV's, i dont want to pre pay, I just want to pay for what I use.

Not gonna Disagree with you there using a contactless card, It would be super handy.

But if you want to use the the ESB fast chargers, you will need to have some sort of account to pay for it, either Prepaid or the subscription service. you can tie your current card to that account.

Even the ionity chargers you need to pay via an app or an rfid tag.

Not strictly true, they also have a pay&go option without signing up for the account.

If you go to the website on your phone (https://myaccount.esbecars.com/findCharger) you can start charge without providing details. All you need to do is accept the terms, then provide the card details.

I got an email from Bosch Mobility this morning and from 10th December, you cannont use paypal as a means of paying for chaging
From December 10th, 2019 onwards, PayPal will no longer be available as payment method in the “Charge My EV" App. Your PayPal account will be deleted. Please use your credit card as default payment method from this day on.

Thanks liamog that's exactly what I was looking for, what I actually did was to go to the ESB website and sign up for an account with my debit card & opted out of the bit that tops up your ESB charging card automaticall as i want pure pay as you go.

You don't have to sign up at all if you don't want to like you said, you can just use the map and enter your card details when you want to charge but you will have to do this every time if you dont reg a card on an account so it is better to create an account and use a debit card as there are no downsides.

FWIW I have deleted PayPal from the Bosch app and then successfully added my mastercard debit card this morning, through the Bosch app

This is a very good alternative to have, for if you have problems with your ESB card, have lost it, or if the card reader on the ESB charger is faulty (again)
