New TV and varying sound

Hi, Got a new TV (sony AG8), working perfect and really like the sound from it. However when switching TV channels on my media box (virgin/upc) from normal def to specifically BBC1-HD the volume goes crazy loud, yet remains normal on other channels. Is there something I am missing ? Any advice?
