Haven't heard anything yet but no money taken off credit card so I am expecting a pfo email
They usually take the money a day or two before the emails come out

Just seen they are spanning the emails over a week.. Still a bit of hope then

Next door neighbour entered with a good for age time [aka 'fast runner' in their language] and cert [etc] and never got billed for it - the rules are very clear that if you dont get in on good for age for any reason you drop into the ballot [but they dont tell you and you cant check!].

    All confusing

Congrats.. did you see anything charged over last few days? I'm in as a team entry again so can't check cards etc as other lad applied using his card.

My Inbox is on refresh all morning...

My fast runner entry just got confirmed. No sign off a charge on my credit card as of yet but the email mentions. "Please watch your bank account or your credit card bill for the charging of the race fee (plus the price for any extra services you might have ordered) in the next couple of days."

Well done all... this is not looking good for us later recipients! Paid for a place this year and all in all it didn't work out a whole lot more but would be nice to get something off a lottery for once.. :p

I'm in too with fast runner entry - just got confirmation email.

Looks like another double rejection from London & Berlin again this year...and Im a massive Bowie fan ☹

Am in with a good for age qualifier and got the email this morning but no money taken yet. A friend of mine is in the same boat but they emailed him yesterday to say he hadn't attached proper identification and he would be in the ballot. He sent them the identification again and it was accepted so they seem to be fairly good at 'customer service'.

I've heard nothing yet but expect the pfo shortly. Mind you I did get an email from Sports Travel offering guaranteed entry to Berlin if you missed the ballot, maybe they know something I don't :)

    BERLIN MARATHON COMMITTEE

We would love you to come and sample everything we have to offer Marty...

Sure how could I turn that down :D:D

    PFO here too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭paddydriver

Another PFO.. getting used to it now. Gonna book a travel company place again. Enjoyed it this year so want to go back and experience it again. Hoping for a showdown between Kipchoge and Bekele.. maybe that pacers call may come yet!

Well Done to all those that got.. commiserations to those that didn't. It doesn't actually cost a whole lot more to book with a travel company.

    PFO for me

There are a few different options available that you can check on the site above. 3 nights at a 4 star with marathon entry included is around Eur600 pps as an example.

I'm in with my 'kinda fast for your age' time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,068 ✭✭✭opus

PFO as expected. Not to worry, I'll go with the tried & tested sequence of Charleville half, Irish 3/4 & DCM instead.

Congratulations to all those who got it, it's a great event.

I booked with Sports Travel last night - went with the UK Sports Tours in 2019 (websites are very similar so maybe partner companies.. not sure).

3 nights in a 4* hotel central Berlin is €450 per head + €165 marathon entry. Flights are €200 each.

If you were to get in on lottery you would still have flights and entry - but more flexibility on hotels/accommodation.

What I can say though is that the hotels the sports travel companies use are generally very nice hotels as I realised in Sept gone when over for Berlin is that a lot of people travel from all over the world - marathon tourists - on these tours and I don't think they would tolerate cheap dive hotels. Many we met were doing Berlin, Chicago and NY in 2019 so they pay for the package and get to run the races - they want nice hotels to stay in that are central etc.

Overall.. could not recommend using a sports travel company enough; The UK Sports Tours International was fantastic and I expect Irish Sports Travel is going to be similar and the hotel we are booked into looks very nice and central.

I compared prices booking direct with these hotels same weekend as Berlin 2020 and not a whole difference.. and in general, hotels in Berlin on marathon weekend are pricey... not Dublin pricey, but not cheap.

Hope this helps. Any questions let me know.

Yup as expected a big Nein for me :(

    might cost sports travel too

I used the Irish Sports Travel for the Tokyo marathon this year, I'd certainly recommend them for great service & a hassle free experience.

Can anyone recommend a good mid-priced hotel not too far from start/finish?

Never mind, I see there's a specific thread for this.

We used the Relaxa hotel this year

Nice stroll to the start and very reasonable - Good Breakfast - Pasta Evening the night before but plenty of options close by!!

My deferred entry has just gone through so that's the main focus for this year sorted. :D

Whats the best way to enter this now for two people?
I found one place that includes entry and three nights in a hotel for 1368.00.
    Seems crazy?
    thanks

    Dear runners,

We have learned from the press conference of the Berlin Senate on April 21, 2020, that all events with more than 5,000 persons will be prohibited until October 24, 2020. Unfortunately, this also applies to the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, which cannot now take place on September 27, 2020, as planned.

We will now deal with the consequences, coordinate the further steps and inform you as soon as we can.

    Let us remain strong together.

    Your team
    from the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

Not surprising really. I reckon there will be no races for the remainder of 2020.

I was still thinking maybe, just maybe......
But then again, I'm not actually all that disappointed from my own point of view. If I was doing Berlin again, I'd want to have a good crack at it. I wouldn't be there this year so hopefully they will give us 1st option next year...
    Hopefully......

As far as i know it's and open draw again for 2021, they are not doing deferrals? Well that's according to a friend of mine that was due to run this year.

They've announced nothing officially other than it's not being run on the planned date this year.
