I work as a furniture restorer and do a lot of French Polishing, up cycling etc. I find it interesting but I'm wondering if anyone does it as a hobby?

Not myself as such (although I've used pre mixed liquid shellac) but you might find someone on the woodcraft forum:

Do some here occasionally, if I was restoring something, very enjoyable work, especially when tinting the polish with dye to change the appearance of the wood, I have a piece of ordinary plywood that I polished without any stain, I will put up a picture of it in a few days when I come across it.
