Stupid question #1

I sometimes do a bet on the terminals in the bookies.
How do I place a horse racing double? I know that I can do a single and then keep that selection when I'm doing the second horse but then I end up with a double and a single when all I want is a double! help.

    Simple

    click on horse no 1

then click on horse no 2

    choose double under bet type

    done

Advice #1 do not use these betting terminals in paddy Power Boylesports or Ladbrokes. Not sure about racing but there is about an extra 5-10% over round on sports betting.

    Hard enough to win.

No I think the odds on horse racing pay out the same. Saves me having to queue and the terminal doesn't greet me with a long face and a grunt!

    I know it's me but....
I picked a horse in the 6.20 wolverhampton
I then wanted to pick a horse in the 1.50 Sedgefield as a double but didn't see an option to save the first horse.

FYI check prices on betting terminals and in the shop itself on the screens, the betting terminal prices aren't done by the respective bookie afaik so may vary.

do you have the 2 selections on the betslip?

No. I could not save the first horse unless I did it as a single bet and then retained it to add to the next bet if you know what I mean.

Fair enough. Just be careful with it. Don't think I've ever backed anything on one of those as anytime I look I'm appalled by how much they are scraping off the top.

So just to outline my predicament again.

I want to do a double at the terminal.
liva in the 6.20 Wolverhampton and santon in the 3.30 southwell.

I select liva but unless I place a bet on it as a single I can't move on to another race to back santon.

just as well, but this really should be so easy to do , just select first horse, then go to the other race and choose other horse, then choose double

Unless I have a bet on the first horse I can't save it to go on to the other race.

you dont have to save it, it just stays on your betslip at the side of the screen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

Try doing them in order of time as well, ie the 3.30 one then the 6.00.

    Might be confusing it.

Any chance one of the horses are NR or the odds have been taken down ?
Has happened me on occasion, instead of green the place bet option greyscales
apart from that i don't know as any time you select a price it automatically ads the horse to the bet and if you pick 2 horses, it automatically becomes a double/treble etc

ps - the onside app gives you a free bet every 5 bets you do on the terminal, one bet a day
usually has to be a multiple bet but still.....i almost always use the machines

Just asking.A sample of sperm from a top top aging stallion could be mixed with a young stallion multiple times to regenerate into a mare.😉

    I think I was having a blonde moment-which lasted for a day.
Anyway I think I'm on to something with these machines. I think I've discovered a glitch! I need to investigate further.;)

Going by the fact you required a couple of days to work out how to put on a double, I'd say this investigation could take a while.

I remember reading a letter sent into the Racing Post years ago.
A punter had come across a way of beating the virtual racing system.

Something along the lines of as the day wore on, there was a bit more cut in the ground and that tended to suit certain horses :D:D

Very well written and funny letter!

    Investigation going well.
My predicament is, do I continue making a modest amount on a regular basis from this glitch or do I alert them to it - in exchange for a nice few bob?

The decent thing to do is share this loophole with the forum (by private message of course!) so we can all make a few bob for the chrimbo.
