Hi I'm 1 year in to my hse job I started in the middle of Nov last year on scale 1. 3 new recruits started in Feb on the same grade as me. But I have only discovered they started at point 10 on the scale nearly 9000 more than me for the exact same job and Responsibilities. Don't even know what to do here I want equal pay I just feel frustrated

If they have had prior public service experience even temporary they will be on a higher pay increment.

Doesn't mean they don't have public sector experience even before that.

Do they have precious relevant experience that you don’t?

Can I ask what grade/job this is... all jobs in the hse have a pay scale.. sometimes through promotion, transfers etc staff will move to a point other the first on a new pay scale.
Are these 3 staff all new entrants?

The HSE cant pick and choose what to pay anyone they must have an entitlement to the point of the scale they are on.

As others have said, its first point of the scale unless some incremental credit applies.
There is obviously something you are unaware of in their circumstances of appointment

There are 2 Grade II.. with and without Qualification.

Before approaching HR (who really cant get into the others circumstances) or your union I'd have a chat with your line manager.
As I said.. there might be circumstances you are unaware of.

Are employed directly to the HSE or is it a HSE funded organisation?
I found that sometimes if they are really having trouble to fill a position they might match previous salary which will bump the person up the scale.

Yeah are you employed directly by or within the HSE or an outsourced company/3rd party?

Ya, equal pay does not work that way anywhere..... that is why we have various grading systems, performance reviews... etc. Very often it has nothing to do with the actual work being done.

You are on a looser trying to argue that you should be on the same salary as those are. Instead concentrate on getting yourself pushed up the grading system. Talk to you team lead to find out what it takes to get moving...
