Machine looks fine. Argos model has a bigger screen. Personally would prefer the bigger screen.

Is it the best bang for buck I'll get for around that money?

Most of that kind of spec will be in and around that and it's a decent brand. It has an SSD,which makes it very fast to start up, and it has adequate memory. Should be good enough for most users, including your son, and it fits your budget. If you can and want to check out retailers, Harvey Norman, PC World, DID & Power City would be your main options.

Following this thread, as I was looking at similar laptops for 14 he old. He has an Xbox for gaming, but needs to do school projects, also for reading school books online, rather than carrying them all home. I'm not to familiar with the black Friday craze, but will these come down in price for that.

In the same boat, looking for laptop for a family member. Chromebook could be an option also, if anyone sees any Blackfriday deals could they post them here, otherwise that deal in Argos looks like the one for me.

It's hard to say. Black Friday in Ireland, can be a bit like other "sales" where new cheaper stock appears and what you want sneaks up in price. For what people on this thread are looking for the machine in the OP is a good reference and you really should not need to go over €500 for a decent laptop.

Both those Laptops run Windows 10 S which is basically a restricted version of Windows. You can only download and run apps that are from the Windows store. So for example, you will not be able to use Firefox, Chrome etc for the internet. Only Edge. If you're happy with this, both Laptops look fine.

you can opt out of win 10 s to full win 10 in 2 minutes.
