Help with replacing old bathroom heater with smaller heater

There is an old Dimplex FXS20 wall mounted heater in my bathroom that is 30cm wide. It no longer works and needs to be replaced.

Similar style heaters now are 23cm wide.

The problem is that wall the heater is mounted on is fully tiled, with the tiles cut around the old heater.

It will presumably look awful having untiled gaps, or possibly even a hole in the wall either side of a new heater, never mind issues with water/condensation. Anyone have any experience of this or ideas of how to resolve it? We have no plans (or budget!) to remodel or retile for the foreseeable future.

    Thanks so much.

Get a large tile similar colour or bland colour like white. Fix that over the entire gap and affix the new heater to this.

Or you could go bigger. There’s plenty of choice out there in dimensional terms but perhaps something slick might work along the lines of this ?

Thanks, yes, I thought of that but am worried it will look bad. The existing tiles have several colours in them so could be very difficult to get something to blend in.

It was also suggested to me to use a piece of plywood and paint it as it could be cut to the exact size and might be easier to colour match with a bit of trial and error. I'm not sure if there's any safety issue with this option though.

Thanks for your reply. It's a wall mounted downflow fan heater that needs to be replaced so unfortunately that style wouldn't work.

While you are at it, does it comply with the elec regs for elec heaters in bathrooms

Even OP installing it is against the regs. Only REC can do this job

Yes, any replacement I get will comply with regulations and be installed by a REC. The current bathroom installations were already in place when I moved in.
