Would you mind sharing the details on your setup, whether you are happy with it / done anything differently etc?

I charge a Nissan Leaf and a Mitsubishi Outlander every night with one of these:

One with the tethered cable, the other with a granny cable in the 3 pin socket. Works well.

I presume the car connected to the type 2 charger is only capable of charging at 3.3kW? Otherwise your solution wouldn't work.

Occasionally charge ours at the same time overnight.

One on a weather proof outdoor socket with a granny cable (the car which needs less charge)

    The other on the charger.

    Happy with it. No issues.

Using a type 2 and Granny charger is around 40 amps out of an available 63 amps from the very large majority of us. Nothing wrong but keep an eye on the rest of the power around the house. Like a kettle and plug in heater is another C. 18 amps and now you're really pushing it.

I charge a leaf40 & i3 using 2 wall boxes with some gizmo’s in the circuit to protect the house. The wallbox app controls the output of each box which is set for 16a each by default. The output is about 3.4kwh each.

The app has controls for multiple wall boxes and I can easily adjust the output to boost one or the other using a slider. It works really well and never had an issue with a car not being charged come morning.

This is the kind of setup I'd like, instead of using a granny charger on the 3 pin outside. Would you mind letting me know the makes/models of the what you have? The app sounds very interesting - did it all cost much to setup?

The setup was done by the easygo team and uses the Wallbox Pro units which has WIFI & Bluetooth. They are nice and compact and its a neat install.

In total it cost just over €2k without including the SEAI grant but that included some electrical work as my fuze box was completely full and my sparky had to add a new box with the capacity of all our circuits plus a couple of load sensors.

    Yes - charging a Z.E. 40 zoe and i3 nightly.
    I had a single Rolec 32amp 7.2kw

I replaced that with a double output rolec seruri charge unit - 7.2kw
It is a commercial type unit that I picked up on eBay for €300. All parts are interchangeable so the old single unit is good if a part fails.

I ran two separate feeds to it from a triple priority switch.
All regs compliant, tested and certified.

    €300 for double charger
    €250 triple priority switch
    €10 cable
    €150 electrician

    Seai grant of €600

    Nice setup!
To the layman, does that mean you plug both in and the system allocates all 7.4kW to one car until its finished then goes to the other? Or does it split the power between?

    Each car charges at 7.2kw
All cables and cars plugged in at same time

    I3 12-3am
    The Zoe comes on 4-7am
Zoe has to come on last as you can only give it a start charge time. It’s manually unplugged at 7am when leaving if not fully charged- zoe will also only pre heat if plugged in.

The interlock or priority switch means there can never be a clash- it’s working well so far, same can be done with single 7.2kw units, no need for anything to fancy or Zappi type money- last I checked a new rolec was about £250ðŸ‘ðŸ»

So what happens if you didnt set any timers and plugged the cars in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 625 ✭✭✭handpref

Which ever car is plugged in first takes priority, when that’s finished the second car will charge. We only set the timers to avail of the night rate.
