Best phone for €179? Alternative to Google Pixel 3a

    Hi all,
    I'm sure some of you have been following the Google Pixel 3a for €179 with Vodafone (debacle) thread over on the bargain alerts forum.

    I was strongly considering it, but after 2 cancelled orders, I'm giving up.


    What other phone would people recommend for a budget of €179?


    I'm upgrading from a Moto G4 which was good phone in its time.


    Looking for: Camera, battery, storage.



    The 5.5" screen on the Moto was fine - a little bigger would be a bonus.
    The camera on the Moto was great outdoors I thought, indoor not so much - an upgrade would be nice.
    Battery was good on Moto when new - would like at least 10 hours on light use.
    Realistically I'd like 4Gb/64Gb
    NFC might be useful
    Turbo charger feature on the Moto was handy - though I suspect it led to the early demise of my battery
    Uncluttered Android would be good - the Moto was also good in this regard.



    Apart from the Pixel 3a, I was thinking about the Samsung A50
    Anything else to consider?

    That's best phone out there for 179...

    Get Samung A20e if u r not a heavy user.

    The A20e is fantastic value for 50e (port required)

    I think if you do it online you're not hit to top up by 20e, I was at the port pin received point then chickened out cos of the posts about the mess they've made with online buying the past few days.
    At that stage there was no requirement to top up

    I had to top up in Liffey Valley VF store yesterday, so 70e

    It is dual sim but it is network locked, I've found an ebay seller unlock code service for about 11e, most Irish based ones are 20e.

    Check out the Nokia 6.2. It looks like an interesting option as well. Amazon have it for 159 pounds

    The Huawei P20 Lite is another option. Not available online with Vodafone but they're getting them in-store today

    I just wanted to close the loop on this. I went back and successfully ordered a Google Pixel 3a. Happy so far.
