Hi I'm currently looking at a 131 kia sorento commercial 2.2 from a car dealer. Does anyone know much bout these jeeps.
Someone did mention to me that gearbox can give trouble on them.
The price is reasonable and warranted but 250k ???

I have a 2011, so the same model, bought 2 years ago with similar mileage. They are fundamentally pretty solid, my mechanic reckons clutches are a weak point with Kia, and I did have to get the clutch and flywheel replaced recently (ouch). 280,000 km for a clutch doesn't seem too bad though, especially as I do a fair bit of towing. Other than that, the aircon isn't much good but probably just needs regassing, some sensor has gone and the cruise control doesn't work anymore, and I had to get the airbag clockspring replaced to get it through the NCT this year.

If its the black one your after I would budget for a possible clutch and flywheel if not recently covered in the service history.

This jeep never had a towbar so would that expand the life of flywheel and clutch. Plus can you get experice parts for this thanks

Not known for reliability. Diffs are known to start noising around 200k.. next to impossible to get s/h replacement. Also clutch/flywheel go and is an expensive repair. On the plus side they are wonderful to drive well specced and extremely comfortable with plenty of power.

So realistically the 3 month warranty on this yoke is effectively on the engine and box, anything else will be classed as wear and tear so I'd not be thinking the warranty is worth too much.

The mileage isn't out of the way IMO, about 35k kms/annum so not high but not low enough that you'd be thinking it was doing loads of short trips when cold either.

At the price if it drove ok and checks out I'd not be overly worried about model profiling on x,y,z being likely to give trouble........ it's likely you'll have to throw a grand or two at it over the next 3 years .......... be it on clutch, DMF or a brake overhaul etc. Such is life when buying a 7 year old vehicle.

Add mentions NCT, it should be the CVRT of course which is annual not every two years and also as it's commercial taxing it is not as straight forward as if it were a car.

It looks like car in that ad has the airbag light on.

That'd have to be sorted for CVRT you would imagine.

Indeed, but I would question it at least. I wouldn’t be happy if it was an OCS problem and the dealer “fixed” it for the test by clearing the fault code and making sure no one sat in the passenger seat.

Would the fault not trigger upon seat belt testing when the buckle is secured?

It is possible for the OCS sensor to be faulty and only raise an error code and put the light on when someone sits in the passenger seat. I got my own car through the NCT once just by clearing the fault code immediately before the test. AFAIK OCS replacement in a Sorento is pretty expensive.
