Invalidity pension overpayment

My arrears for invalidity pension came into my bank account last night. I was expecting about €300 and got more than €1000. I’ve rang them and they’re looking into it and going to get back to me. Just wondering how I get the money back to them? I had an overpayment before in jsa and brought the cash into my local office. Can I still do this since invalidity is based in Longford?

If you have a Mygovid you can login and see the payment details.

Can I ask how long you were waiting for the arrears?

I was awarded it in mid September and my first payment came early October. Arrears came last night. I’ve checked mygov and it says I’ve received no invalidity payments yet so it must be behind. They’ve rang me and said as far as they’re concerned it’s right but I just don’t see how it is. He said he couldn’t give me details over the phone but I could request a written breakdown so if it doesn’t show up online soon I’ll do that. Last thing I want to do is spend it and find out I have to pay it back.

I was overpaid on illness benefit and had to pay back so please get in writing that the amount they have given you is correct.

I won’t be touching any of it until I see how they’ve worked it out.

It is backdated to the day that your application was received in DSP, rather than the date on which you were awarded it - have you factored that in to your calculations?

When did you send your application and what payment were you getting while you waited?

I applied early November last year. I was in receipt of illness benefit until end of May this year and went straight to supplementary welfare until my first invalidity payment in early October. So while there’s a lot of weeks there, it’s only a few euro a week I’m owed.

Are you living alone? If you are then you were entitled to the “living alone increase” of €9 per week for all that time. And the fuel allowance of €22.50 per week during the winter months.
If you are living alone then you also need to apply for HBP and have your electricity allowance backdated.

I’m not living alone but I did receive fuel allowance with my invalidity. Maybe they backdated it? I didn’t think they would.

Yes they would backdate it. If you should have got it last Nov then you’d be entitled to all that. Fuel Allowance is €22.50 per week from Oct through to around half way through April.
