Drilling Service

Hi lads I searched the forum and googled and couldn't find the answer to my question or appropriate thread for posting the question so I'm starting a new thread.

I need two holes drilled in fairly thin Stainless Steel lid (15mm & 20mm) but I don't have any tools and can't justify buying a drill and cobalt drill bits for this once off job.

Is there a company that offers this kind of small time drilling services where I could get this done?

    Thanks

Is there any engineering or metal fabrication company near you? If you can remove the lid, take it to them and they might drill it for you.

I can remove the lid yes. I was hoping there is a service that does this kind of small jobs as a business model but if there isn't any I guess I'll have to do what you said.

    Thanks

Ask a neighbor... Or family member who's handy they probably have the bits.

Cheap drill can be got for about twenty euro corded and bits for about 8 euro.

You then have a drill for future use. Or sell them both off on adverts to recoup some cost.

Yeah, I'm fairly new to Ireland so no family and a few friends here and drill bits for stainless steel for the holes of that size are way more expensive than a cheap drill.

But you have a great point with buying and reselling, the money I would loose would probably be the same as if I were to pay someone to do it for me. I'll certainly look into that option now.

    Thank you very much

That is what I'm going to buy. I guess it won't be a great drill bit but should do this one job.

    Thank you very much lads

Where are you located. If you're nearby I'd be happy to do it

I'm in Dublin 15 and i gather you are in Limerick? I'm gonna buy that cheap drill bit that was recommended to me and figure out the drill in the meantime.

But I really appreciate your offer to help. You're a great man, thanks.

    .
I would not be using that bit on thin material when you are not that experienced in such matters.
In a hand held drill you will quite easily end up with a 35mm hole, or worse it will catch in the thin metal and distort it.
i have a drill press and a stop and I still would not try it with that bit in thin s/s

I'm in Kildare, but still not Dublin 15.

I'd be in agreement with calahonda re that drill bit

*Edit* actually, there's drill bit sets in Lidl since Thursday 14th, hss bits, 2.99 a pack

    Disagree

You'd want to have some bandy hands to mess that up tbh.

    Used these many times.

If somebody was to do this as a business model they’d have to charge about 50 quid a call then 40 an hour after that to make a living. Probably better off buying the drill.

Thanks for that Listermint. I saw one before in lidl but I actually bought one form Amazon, I'm sure it's not intended for drilling stainless steel but I guess it will do this one job.

Thanks you all for your suggestions you were of great help.
